The Big Beat - Mono
Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers (Artist) | Format: Vinyl

So happy, saw this on the RadioActive FB page on a Thursday, and hoped it would be there the next Monday when I flew in, and it was. A superb album, and Lee Morgan's trumpet is top-shelf here. Never heard 'It's Only a Paper Moon' played so nice.

Mind and soul are comforted by the soothing voice of Native American flute with the richness of symphonic strings, oboe, French horns, trumpet and ethnic percussion. Flutist R. Carlos Nakai and arranger Billy Williams take you on a peaceful voyage to new realms of the imagination.

Renaissance - Live at Carnegie Hall (original LP)

- If you've ever wanted to check out this band then this is the place to start. There isn;t anyone else quite like them. Prog-rock with a midevil flair.

Bob if you like that LP try ''Ashes Are Burning" or''Prologue"  These 2 LPs were later released in a 2 album package. There are a couple of earlier albums but were made by some members of the Yardbirds and have a diff. feel

QuoteRenaissance ~ Illusion

The original Renaissance lineup fell apart during the recording of this, their second album. Jim McCarty was the first to leave; he departed in 1970, when the band was about to start a European tour, because he hated to fly. Keith Relf and Louis Cennamo left next, subsequently forming the new group Armageddon. McCarty continued to be associated with Renaissance as a songwriter, however, receiving writing credits on the new band's first, second and third albums.

John Hawken kept the band going by recruiting new members, including Michael Dunford and Terry Crowe, former bandmates of his from The Nashville Teens. New bassist Neil Korner had previously been part of The New Vaudeville Band (though he did not appear on their big hit, "Winchester Cathedral".) This new lineup, which recorded "Mr. Pine", was one of several short-lived transitional lineups that existed between the original one and the classic Annie Haslam band.

QuoteArmageddon was the last band to feature ex-Yardbird Keith Relf. The former lead singer and harmonica player of the band that launched Clapton, Beck and Page, Relf had abandoned his blues-guitar band roots when he founded Renaissance in the late 1960s. Relf left Renaissance after two albums (actually half way through the second album) due to frustrations with the music business and being tired of touring. However, when he created Armageddon, he became involved with one of the best guitar rock albums of the 70's.
