Just played an absolutely new copy of Earl Wild performing Chopin's Waltz in G flat minor--- on a 10" 1947 Majestic 78. A friend bought out a horder's storage building of voice coils, amps, speaker cones, rheostats, etc, and among them was an unopened box sealed with Majestic Records labeled tape containing 25 unplayed copies. A bit of search led to Dec. 1947 as the release date. Of course, even new, it's a 78 and plays with more noise that I want to listen to typically.
The label was based in NY and was partly owned by Jimmy Walker, NYC mayor of Tamminy Hall infamy.
If anyone wants a "new" copy for a few bucks, I'll put you in touch.
