Tube for a DAC
« on: May 26, 2009, 05:34:37 PM »
I'm looking for a DAC tube.. for a Scott Nixon.. It needs good bass retrieval/detail.  I had a Siemens E88cc that had sweet highs and ok mids but nothing special in the bass.  And I was thinking these were in the same vein but might have better bass characteristics.

So far I've found swapping tubes changes the midrange and upper midrange from shouty to shoutier on the cheapo leftovers I have lying around.  I'd like to find something really balanced... and liquid-y smooth.  A pair would leave me a spare which is nice... especially if they are 'just right'.. so, I'm definitely thinking about these.. hm.

Carl,

 Find a Amperex 7308.
 Just my 2 cents.

Later,

I put the Siemens in last night and man it sounds good.. like a 'real' tube should sound... seductive, inviting.  The cheapo Yugoslavian and Russian tubes I've been rolling just aren't up to snuff.
Let me know if you see some good examples of the 7308 around... I'd like 2, 1 for now, 1 for later.. but 1 would be OK too. :)
