The second of the two meetings in May will be held on Friday the 15th at the Cambria Heights home of Robert Gilliard. Professor Bob has two experiments in progress at his home.
The first experiment, in Sound Room No. 1 is the exploration into the concept and parameters of 'sound field control' for playback, as defined by Yamaha. The system for this consists of a main stereo setup with an all digital signal path from the source through to the DACs in the Tannoy Ellipse 10 iDP monitors, and a subsystem, operating in parallel, source fed and level controlled from the same front end as the main system. The subsystem features a Yamaha DSP - 3000 Sound Field Processor, and a Marantz AV 8801 Surround Pre/Pro, to manage a seven channel amplifier and its loudspeakers.
In Sound Room No. 2, there are ongoing adjustments to a stereo speaker system that employs six inch woofers and a 'Missing Fundamental' processor, in an attempt to achieve a perception of accurate, low frequency bass extension using small drivers in a small room. The loudspeakers used are Tannoy 600As, and the missing fundamental processor is the Waves MaxxBass 107.
There are other components in each of these systems, however they are not the ones that are directly responsible for achieving the goals of each, and could be replaced with other brands/models even though I selected them for technical reasons.
