In the market for 6922/e88cc tubes for phono preamp.
6n23p-ev, Tesla e88CC gold pin, Brimar/Mullard cv2492 are some of the ones that I am considering. Are there any new tubes to look for? Also, any of the newer tubes from EH/Genelax etc worth trying?

There are always a ton of 6922 tubes out there. For low noise, I've used Philips/Sylvania JAN. They used to be cheap, still reasonable. Probably a set of 5 you back $80-100.

If you are looking for NOS, what about the Russians? Both tone and noise are really quite nice. 6N1P or 6N23P Voskhods or Reflector. My late friend Gary Dodd preferred them to the EH he had been using in his phono pre.
How many do you need? I might be able to let you try some out of my stock of extras.

Hey Dee,
The Tesla E88cc gold pins are nice tubes for not so much money. I'm using them in my phonostage after my Amperex SQ tubes started getting noisy. They are very quite and have a nice tonal balance.

Good to know Joe. My Mullards gold pins are beginning to show some age. Good to see you posting. How are ya Man ??

Everything is good Charles, thx for asking!

I believe the 7308 is an acceptable variant of the 6922. Dave recommended the Amperex nos gold pin 7308s for my tube pre and they are producing great sound. I bought them from Brent Jesse. They were a bit pricey, but worth it to me. If Dave sees this, I hope he’ll chime in and advise/confirm

Yes, the 7308 tubes are very good.
Another often overlooked tube are the 7DJ8/PCC88 variants. With 7 volt heaters they last along time on 6.3V. There are many out there from Telefunken, Amperex, Philips, Matsushita, etc. @ $50.00/ea price point. Very much worth your consideration.

Yes those 7DJ8’s are very good for less money than the other variants.
The Matsushita from Japan were made from Mullard tooling and supposed to sound good.
Good heads up, P.I.

I really like the Austrian Valvo 7dj8 tubes. They were my tube of choice in my early model Dodd battery pre.

Scott,
I am ok with the NOS 6n23p. Looking to get 2 pair each of different type so I have spares. I did not realize you could use 6n1p in place of 6922. Yeah, I had a bunch of 6922 when I had Gary’s preamp but when I sold it I passed those tubes along to the buyer :duh
I will pickup Sylvania from Jim Cross @ Vacuumtubesinc. I will also see if he has any 7308.

Hey Joe,
How is everything going? Everyone here is doing well. Yep, I have reached out to a dealer about the Tesla.
The phono uses 6922/e88cc and 6n2p - https://www.lab12.gr/product/melto2/

The Valvo 12AT7 is a winner as well. Good call.

Bought 2 pair Tesla 6922 from Tube Monger. Was surprised that they are now preferred to my Mullard Gold pins. THX Joe.

Your welcome Charles! Are they the one with crossed swords and 32 on the glass? If so they are the better ones.
Not as good as the top 6922 and 7308’s but pretty close and a lot cheaper!👍

Deepak did you ever settle on any of these tubes?

I have some used Amperex Bugleboys I would be willing to part with, if you are interested.
If so, how many do you need? I can check to see what I have and how they check.
