Sol Samet had this idea yesterday when we were talking about adding another circuit to my system.
Drop a 220V 50A dryer circuit at the stereo per code. Build a detached portable box with a small breaker panel and duplex outlets, using sound electrical wiring principles. Plug the whole thing into the 50A outlet. All the benefits of a dedicated subpanel with few of the drawbacks. You control phase of each outlet and parts quality, cryo, SST, line filtering a la Felix, whatever, probably do the whole thing yourself if electrically savvy. Removable when you move, no extra holes in the walls for 4 more outlets. And of course,,,, cheap
Large boats use this technique for shore power.
What are the pros and cons of this idea, compared to dedicated lines from main panel, and compared to a dedicated audio subpanel? Can the idea be refined enough to actually try?
Thanks
Rich
