Magic Box has arrived
« on: June 22, 2010, 05:07:03 PM »

I have the latest 3.0 Pro version that is cryoed.

Has anyone here heard what this can do??
Rollo maybe? He seems well traveled.

It's been in my possession since last Friday.

By the weekend I can comment more.

I will say, your cables will never break-in through the system
and sound like they come off the cooker.

Nice...  8)   It would be interesting to hang a scope on it to see just how hard it beats those wires. Are those silver things SE/BAL switches, right below the RCA jacks?

Now I know you're really sick, cryo'ing the tweak machine.

Congrats Den, and good luck with the new venture.

No,those are BNC connectors.

Send me a pair of your interconnects and see what you think.

I will probably do one pair from anyone free except for the return postage.
This through the month of July only.
Just to see what people think.
I say one pair because interconnects are the shortest cook time, 48 hrs-60 hrs.

wow   Are you sure it won't melt them?  :D

Thanks for the offer Den, but I don't have any IC worth wasting your time on right now. But I returned a loaner pair today (Thanks Carl)  So I need to call my friendly heroin JPS dealer for some of my own, then I'll send them to you for melting.

Affective at what it does. Cables that were well used improved after treatment. Why ? Got me. My only caveat is the method. IMO 5 hours on 5 hours off seems to quicker break-in. The dielectric is really what is being broken in or settling. I'll stand corrected if there is a scientific reason to believe otherwise. However works for me.
Speed of the cable could be measured before and after the treatment as a reference point but what is the point. At the end of the day it is the sonic benefit or non benefit that we discern. However still curious as to the speed of propagation measurements. In digital cables it appears to have an advantage in sound. The quicker the transfer the more open the sound. My take anyway.
For convenience alone its a winner. Every cable vendor should own one. As a service to their clientele a broken in cable [ especially high priced] should be part of the deal. Shoot 40 to 50 point markups should include break in.

Cooking.  :thumb:
These are "Big Red Machine's" from the AC board, cables breaking in.
2 Pairs of balanced Interconnects and a Pair of Bi Wire Speaker cables.

At the prices you guys pay for wires and equipment you don't want to try this?
Just unbelievable!

Pete, "Big red Machine" sent me all his cables. Those are in the picture above.
His feedback was as follows.

"Yes I heard a difference but have had only 20 minutes to listen.  I kept telling myself there was no change but it seemed that the sound was smoother, a little more open, more detailed w/o being bright, and wider slightly in soundstage.  I am not sure of the bass is tubbier or not quite yet, so jury still out there.  I made comments in the thread about wire burn in but folks seem to be ignoring my personal experience."

There might be a larger difference when not moving the cables too much after burn-in. These were coiled and sent in the mail back to Pete.

I will leave the box at Carl's for anyone to try at their leisure. There will be instructions with it.
Just return it after a couple of weeks. There are more people around Carl and Richie within driving distance that would be interested in this. It definitely works and you can hear the change but you will not be able to try it immediately. It takes on average 3 days for Speaker Cables and 24-36 hours for interconnects.

I have heard that the bending of the metal upsets the molecular structure requiring new break in, so bending it is to be avoided. But I bend mine a lot, and I don't hear them sound worse. I think the effect is mild, if it exists at all, or that mine don't care about bending.

Thanks for bringing it up Den. Looking forward to seeing you!

I will have 3 near identical cables to try on this cooker.  I'm actually looking forward to what happens.

I really enjoy listening to music.
