PS Audio DAC III
« on: February 20, 2009, 05:37:45 PM »
I don't know if anyone is interested, but I received and email from PS Audio and they are having a sale on the DAC III...$300 off of the normal $999 price.

You can use the following link to check it out...if you wish.

If anybody from hear wants one and would prefer to buy from a fellow AN member, I will match PS Audio's direct pricing ($699.00) for as long as the special runs.

At a recent Rave meeting we listened to the PS Audio DAC 3 [$699]. A Theta transport was used. The com petion was the Lector Mk1 CDP [ used $1750], Audio Note Kit USB DAC [ $2200] and Musicstreamer USB DAC [ $299]. Maybe the PS Audio DAC was not fully broken in but in most everyones opinion it finished last. The Lector was the winner in the system at hand. Second was the Musicstreamer. Followed by the tubed Audio Note.
Well that was the general consensus at the demo , however in all fairness to the PS Audio one must listen in their own system. Its all about synergy, so give it a go. Good price.

Not according to Fremer. The bass was muddy with the Audio Note                                                                                                                                               The fact that the Musicstreamer cost 1/8 of the Audio Note was the big suprise. The Audio note is no slouch and its tubed. Bang for the buck goes to the MS+. A very close call IMO. Smoked? What you smoking er Lizard.                               The Lector ruled overall IMO with the system at hand.

As far as music engaging the listener., the Audio Note Dac was the best. Just ask the host of the meeting. I will say the Musicstremer plus for what it costs, was impressive.
