Title: Taipei International Audio Show 2022
Post by: mresseguie on December 15, 2022, 12:41:26 AM
I値l be there tomorrow (Taiwan time).

I値l do my best to take photos and give commentary, but I知 not the best note taker.

[Edit] I just noticed there is a pair of Perlisten speakers in one of the rooms. Gotta check them out!

Just learned these speakers are in a room: JBL DD 67000

Charles: I'll keep my eyes peeled for those field coil speakers. In past years, there's been just one room with field coil speakers, and they were from a European company whose name has slipped my mind. Fantastic sounding and very expensive.

Whew! It's been a long day. There were a helluva lot of people attending today.

First photo:

Best sounding speakers by far:  JBL DD 67000 [CORRECTION!] JBL 4344 speakers These are rebuilt speakers using vintage and non-vintage parts. The guy told me they try to rebuild the speakers to the same specs as the original JBL speakers. I liked the sound so much that I returned to this room 2 more times. It didn't matter if Classical or Jazz was played - the music coming from these speakers was just marvelous. They're big speakers with 18" Correction: 15" woofers.
[Edit: A kind gentleman on AC pointed out that these speakers look nothing like the DD 67000 model.

More photos with commentary to follow.

First photo is YPL speakers - a Taiwanese speaker company. Both models are 2.5-way. The larger speaker sounded pretty good in the lower and mid-frequencies, but a bit too bright for my tastes.

Photo #2: This speaker was on display only. No audio and no specs other than the price of $99,000 NTD (~$3100 USD). The reps were busy with paying customers who were buying CD, LPs, and other stuff, so I wandered off.

Photo #3: Sorry, the cute girl is not for sale! This kit includes an amp, DAC w/volume control + 2 3" fullrange speakers + a 4" 'sub'woofer. Price $12,000NTD ($375 USD) Yes, it's all very basic stuff. The speakers sound okay so long as the music isn't too demanding. It would be a cool set for a desktop system.

Photo #4: JM Reynaud speakers. These are nice sounding speakers. If I hadn't just listened to the marvelous sounding JBL 4344 speakers in the first photo, I probably would have been more impressed. Good balance from top to bottom/no complaints.

Photos #5 and #6: These JBL speakers sounded flat to me. And, yeah, it didn't help that I listened to them mere minutes after I listened to the marvelous sounding 4344 speakers. The TT was MASSIVE! I nearly made shocked noises when I got up close to this monster and fully understood how huge it is. Of course, it wasn't hooked up or powered, so all we could do was gawk and stare at it. I didn't bother to ask how much it costs.

More photos and commentary on the way, but I promised my wife I'd play Mahjong with her and the in-laws tonight.

If I were to have guessed, I would have guessed that the speakers in your first photo (#7508) were JBL Everest. Looks like a nice show. Enjoy!

I'm afraid I did not take any videos of today's event. I do have another half dozen photos that I'll <hopefully> post tomorrow (it's midnight here).

I did not see the room that was supposed to have Perlisten speakers. Over the years, I've noticed that certain rooms only show on the weekend. This may have been the case with the Perlisten speakers.

I did not see Wolf von Langa, Thivan Labs or Acoustic Go. Is Acoustic Go a guitar amp company? I just Googled it and saw 'Go Acoustic guitar company.

This audio show is not Taiwan's best audio show. The best and biggest show is sometime in late Spring or summer. Many of the big dealers and manufacturers do not present at this event.

Mike, what did you think about the Kaweros?  Being built out of panzerholtz ought to yield a non-resonant enclosure and the drive units are top notch...

Dave,

Fortunately, I listened to the Kaweros before I heard the DD 67000 Corrected: JBL 4344 mkII speakers, so I was able to appreciate them fully.  :thumb: They're excellent sounding speakers. This is the first time I'd heard them myself. Heck, I didn't know they existed till yesterday. I was impressed enough to ask questions, snap more than one photo, and made sure that I knew who the manufacturer was for future research and discovery.

Apparently, this is the first model to be imported into Taiwan, and this is the first time they've been shown at an audio show here. The guy told me the price, but I didn't write it down. I do recall they are quite expensive. They're definitely worth seeking out for a listen IMHO.

I have analyzed them as much as possible without hearing them.  They absolutely have and seem to be everything necessary to be exceptional.  I would love to hear a pair.  Fortunately, for me, they are way too insensitive to work in my sensitive world.  Nothing less than 95dB/1W/1m need apply. I seek sense of scale of music over detail out the ass.
