Fantastic rhythm section, Sam Jones, Art Taylor, Dick Katz, with J. R. Montrose, 1956

EDIT: The last track on this Tahitian Suite (aka "Monaco" on other sides) has some of the best KD playing I have on record, pure power and balls, total melodic freedom. This recording is a month before the famous Cafe Bohemia recording with near same band, and 2 months before Clifford's death. KD would put this new fantastic band on hold to sub for Brownie, where he made some of his best recordings with Max. What an incredible genius.

A month later, same band, this time with new star Bobby Timmons, playing live at Cafe Bohemia. Funny, though this a live recording, the sound quality is better than the studio recording above.  KDs playing is spectacular here. He even sings.

Today I received the new (used) copy of the Maynard Ferguson's "Stratospheric" 2LP record from a great seller on EBay. It looks nice and clean, stamped with Demo on the front, and an original insert has the full list of reissues on this series.  It probably came from a radio station library.

Was at crackhouse Wed, and picked up 2 MF albums in the new arrival bin, but put them back as I don't know his body of work. Would 'Conquistador' been worth taking? Forget the other, might of been 'Chameleon'. Either worth acquiring?

If you are still interested in the MF Conquistador album, I just saw a 1/2 speed matered version for sale over on A'gon.

I have dealt with Ted before and he is a a stand-up guy.

Check out his other items for sale as he has a rather extensive list right now.

He also has listed a sealed copy of the Fiedler /Boston Pops direct-to-disc LP that I discussed a few weeks back.

Maynard played at my junior high school auditorium in 77 when Rocky was a hit on the radio. Peter Erskine on drums. I picked up his broken stick tip after the concert, what a solo. We had stage band rehearsal the next day.

What a great opportunity to see musicians of that caliber play in an up close and personal venue like a school auditorium.  Unfortunately the event was wasted on 98% of this kids in the audience who were probably pissed off that they were being forced to sit listen to some old due that wasn't playing Disco.  :(

But for those who understood and appreciated what was going on, something like that turns into a lifetime memory.

The hall only seats 1000 so it was full of eager listeners. It was not a school function, but a promotor event with tickets selling for rather expensive price, iirc. They packed a full blast rock show on the stage with lights and everything. His book in 1977 was mostly disco and electric jazz. They released 3-4 records in that one year, Columbia thought Maynard was their jazz crossover ticket. The junior high was the biggest and nicest hall in our town, probably in any of the surrounding towns, but I still look back and think holy shit! Maynard came to my school at the peak of his power and popularity.   Gotta dig out some of those old records later...

Kind Of Blue [Dual Disc]
Miles Davis | Format: Audio CD

Listening to the dvd side, and it's good. But I wonder if the SACD version would be better, anyone have the SACD of this and want to comment?

Get the Classic Records 200g LP reissue. Game, set, match.  :thumb:

(Unless of course you can get your hands on one of the Classic 4 disc 45 RPM sets for less than a months mortgage payment  :duh  - they have become very hard to find a quite pricey when you do find one)
