I watched the movie "Julie and Julia" with my wife tonight. Pretty typical chick flick drivel until the final soundtrack song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFtx54oRkBo

"Time after Time" - by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne (1947,) sung by Margaret Whiting, recorded for Capital Records:

Margaret Whiting (vocals) with Paul Weston and his Orchestra, incl. strings | (Session #422) LA, October 16, 1946
Time after time
Beware my heart
If I had you

This is the double CD with the hits from Capital Records, now out of print. I just ordered it. Apparently this song Time after Time isn't even in her top ten hits. Big pop star after the war.

Beware: she covered her own hit again in 1966 with a pop groovy rock beat on her first record for her new label London Records. Avoid this one:

Was trying to post this earlier but was having tech troubles on my phone.

I enjoyed the Christmas music from the Northern Lights Orchestra's 2009 live performance.

Some snippets.

I'm adding this to my Christmas playlist.

My wife's Christmas present. She is enjoying it.  I love that she likes listening to my stereo.

If you like Ellington, if you like big band music, if you like hard core 1950s jazz, if you want to hear a historic live concert that changed the destiny of jazz and put Duke on the cover of Time mag, then have a peek at this new (1999) issue. It contains the actual live concert recordings very well mastered with CD dynamic range in mind, and a tasteful touch of "enhanced for stereo" phase trickery to fill in the sound stage. Awesome!!!  The 2 CD set also contains remastered versions of the studio session recorded the next day in NY which was issued (in 1956) for decades as the real live concert, complete with added echo, reverb, dubbed in audience applause and background noise, editing, and announcements from the real concert.

Do you ever wish you could have been there, at a live recording that you loved so much? I have loved my 1977 LP of the "studio concert," but this is like going back in time and being able to attend the previous night's show live. Clean, full dynamic range, a real audience panicking to get more, and the performers are more inspired by thousands of screaming people on the mansion lawns.

Solo violin. The music is harmonically sophisticated, reaching for something different, bordering on modern, but with one foot still grounded in romantic. Soloist's violin tone, musicial sensitivity and phrasing are beautiful.  The natural hall sound is large and a little dark, but it suits the music. Echo is not a problem, good diffuse reverb. Typical Naxos great recording quality.

Edit: My above comments don't reflect the great music on this disk. the compositions and interpretation are really great. it is an adventure into new places, but is not intimidating or confusing. Inspiring, refreshing, ballsy, bold, confident, clever.

Man ~ self titled......Columbia CS 9803

This Long Island, NY band was formerly The Rich Kids, of Denny Belline and the Rich Kids, after Belline decided he could do better solo. Man's only album is primarily semi-hard, semi-commercial rock, sporting minor psych influences.
