This was an awesome find.  Milt Jackson and Horace Silver on a 1955 recording date, on a minty deep groove Prestige heavy vinyl pressing.

Does it sound like an awesome find? I bet it does.

It does indeed.

I've noticed Rugolo's name in the credits of the Kenton albums I got, guess I'll have to grab some of his work.

He got you again.

With friends like this, who needs a bank acount? We should just arrange for direct deosit to the record dealers.

Come to think of it the stock market is in the tank, maybe we should all be investing our retirement funds in vinyl.  (I'd love to see the face of the IRS agent who came accross "Vintage Vinyl" as one of the investment categories in ouor 401Ks. )
Of course the biggest problem wouold be I would end up with no money to live on in retirement because you would never be able to get me to actually sell any of the records.

Frank Sinatra: Strangers in the Night

Mint original Repise vinyl. IMO FRanks best work o the Reprise era.

Tom - get this at the thrift store? I've been looking for clean copies of this and Only the Lonely for awhile.

No I got this one at Infinity, but it was in the dollar bin, so that is pretty close. It was a great find. Lookslikeit has never been played. Shinney vinyl, zero scratches and not even any spindle marks. I bought this for my son since he has no Sinatra records in his collection, but it turns out that it is so nice that its staying with me. (It's good to be the king! )

He can have my copy, which is in nice shape, but not this nice.

Caravan to Midnight/Victims of the Fury
Robin Trower | Format: flac

Bill's CDs ripped to my media server while I do laundry, it goes together surprisingly well.

Standards in Silhouette (Reis)
Stan Kenton | Format: vinyl

Listening with the Shelter 501/Scout combo, Tom may have been onto something when he described the Shelter as sounding 'more lively' vs. the DV.

Got this one this weekend, great music-  vinyl looks very clean but after a good cleaning, still too noisy- gotta find another copy, kinda pissed as this one was $8 vs. my usual $1-3bucks.
No new money spent on audio!!  but starting in 2012!!

Do you steam as part of your cleaning? Does wonders for the surface noise.

Ben Webster joins Clark Terry on this recording date, captured nicely on this minty stereo Impulse! vinyl pressing.  Terry is his usual brilliant self on this album.  If you find yourself interested then buy it for Clark Terry and not Ben Webster.  Webster is also great but this record is really all about Terry's virtuosity on the trumpet and flugelhorn.

This is one of my favorite jazz records.  The music is fantastic and the sound is reference quality.  It is well worth seeking out a minty Fantasy deep groove mono pressing.  They are not especially rare so you should be able to find one for a sensible price.

City of Glass: Stan Kenton Plays Bob Graettinger
Robert F. Graettinger (Composer), Tom Adair (Composer), John Frederick Coots (Composer), Stan Kenton (Performer), Hal Schaefer (Performer) | Format: flac

Not for a 1st time exposure to Stan Kenton, it's something of a 'themed' album.

Maynard Ferguson on trumpet is quite good, especially the tune 'A Trumpet'.
