****PLAYING MOST TRACKS 90+ DB...SOME 100... I'M IN THAT MOOD **** 8) :thumb:

Cheap Trick - The Unreleased Steve Albini Sessions
60m44s

Studio recording > ? > shn > wav > flac frontend level 8 > flac

Tracks:
01 - Hello There
02 - Big Eyes
03 - Downed
04 - I Want You to Want Me
05 - You're All Talk
06 - Oh Caroline
07 - Clock Strikes Ten
08 - Southern Girls
09 - Come On, Come On
10 - So Good to See You
11 - Fan Club
12 - I Want You to Want Me (alternate)
13 - Can't Hold On
14 - I'm Losing You (Lennon)
15 - Oh Caroline (alternate)

Tracks 1-10 are the "In Color" album re-recorded.  Tracks 11-15 are outtakes and alternates.

From the original compiler:
- On the "Rockline 2003" show, someone called in and asked the band for the
history behind this disc, and Bun E. Carlos gave the explanation.  The "In
Color" album was produced by Tom Werman, but the band always felt that Werman
screwed up the album.  "He made it safe for radio, but the album sounds like
it was done in a cardboard box."  So about five years ago [late 1990s] they were in the
studio hanging around with the producer Steve Albini, and had nothing to do
for a few days, so they said "Yeah, that would be fun to redo that."  So they
started re-recording the songs.  They have not finished it yet, haven't gotten
all the harmonies or instruments on it yet, but someday they might finish it
and piggyback release it as a bonus disc with something else.

Dire Straits

The Roxy, West Hollywood, CA

JEMS Archive

Audience Recording Gear: unknown

JEMS 2016 Transfer: low-generation cassettes > Nakamichi CR-7A (azimuth adjustment) >
Sound Devices USBPre 2 > Audacity 2.0 capture > Peak 6.0 pitch correction >
iZotope RX4 clean up > iZotope Ozone 5 mastering > wav > (tracking,

tracking, level adjusting and posting by glasnostrd19, pitch adjusting by butterking.

runtime: 106:12 (minutes/ seconds)

Mark Knopfler: lead guitar, lead vocals
Hal Lindes: rhythm guitar, vocals
Alan Clark: piano
John Illsley: bass
Pick Withers: drums
promoting their album "making movies"

setlist:
1: stage introduction, once upon a time in the west 10:46
2: expresso love > 5:28
3: down to the waterline > 5:04
4: lions 6:29
5: single handed sailor > 4:55

12: portobello belle > 4:21
13: angel of mercy 4:45
14: tunnel of love 9:46
15: wild west end 6:13
16: where do you think you're going? 4:20

This recording captures Dire Straits at what for me is the career high point of their
magical third album, Making Movies, playing what had to be a special show at the tiny,
500-capacity Roxy in West Hollywood.

It's a captivating, intimate performance and boasts unique arrangements of some tracks
along with less frequently played material like "Les Boys."

This is the same underlying source recording that circulates as "Roxy Los Angeles 1980"
and has been torrented before. But the circulating version is several generations
downstream from this copy and suffers from many negative sonic artifacts
and attempts to clean up what was likely a hissy, high-generation source.
You'll find this edition materially clearer, full fidelity and ultimately
much more listenable. Samples provided, including what the circulating version sounds like.

The tapes we transferred fell into our hands somewhat accidentally, but have a
provenance going back at least 20 years before a kind soul gave them to us a few months ago.
Thanks to our mystery benefactor.

! Recording: symbols: % = recording discontinuity; / = clipped song; // = cut song; ... = fade in/out; # = truncated timing; [m:ss] = recorded event time. The recorded event time immediately after the song or item name is an attempt at getting the "real" time of the event. So, a timing of [m:ss] right after a song title is an attempt to say how long the song really was, as represented on this recording.
