Shuguang EL 156
« on: March 30, 2020, 05:36:09 PM »
I just tried the Shuguang EL 156  had sitting around, and it sounds wonderful. Very refined. Only problem is one
has to order from China to get the tube. Don't know the cost. Shuguang uses an octal socket so can replace the
KT 88. Mu is twice as high as the KT 88 while the transconductance is similar.

Filament current is 1.9 amps, so maybe a little dicey. Has 50 watt plate dissipation from what I could figure out
from German language. The plate is somewhat larger. I once ran the plate dissipation to a solid 60 watts and no plate glow. Great plate dissipation reserve.

I tested and the screen voltage is a limiting factor with Shuguang than the German specs specify as maximum.
Can still get some watts out of it though with great refinement from top to bottom.

cheers
steve

ps. I am going to have to work a little on the idle plate current as on some songs, the bass is a little shy. But I don't think it is much of a problem.
