NP for me. Now if it was jazz LP's I might be fighting Tom for a place near the boxes.
Tmazz the Mrs. and I made the trip last Sunday to PREX I only bought 1 LP but we spentNP for me. Now if it was jazz LP's I might be fighting Tom for a place near the boxes.
Unfortunately, no Allentown trips on the horizon for me. But I am kind of bummed about the weather tomorrow. Seeing as tomorrow is Fr. Chaminade day, Bobby is off from school and we had made plans several weeks ago to make out annual pilgrimage to Princeton Record Exchange. Much to my dismay, it looks like the impending storm will put the kibosh on those plans. As it is it is about a 2 hour drive from my house to PRX. Add snow to that and I am on the road for 6-8 hours round rip, which makes it a bit out of reach for a day trip.

Bill,
I'll take good music over a rare record any day of the week. I don't understand these collectors who search all over for a rare record and then when they find it won't put it on the turntable because it's too valuable. To each his own.
But as far as I am concerned, if I am not going to listen to it I'm not going to own it.
Oh no, drove down to DC area today to pick up a VPI 16.5, and stopped by another crackhouse, this one is huge, not good! :duh
Got about equal measure Classical and Jazz, many Classical cleaner versions of things I had, but Jazz all new.
Hit the local crack house called the PREX with the kids today and my wallet is empty. No more trips for another quarter or so :duh

So I got to the crackhouse to meet Mr and Mrs Eleazar after hitting PREX, the demon owner had posted he had 8 more boxes of classical for me to peruse.
I walked in the door, and there was Eleazar holding a clean copy of Lee Morgan's "The Sidewinder". This is noteworthy as the demon owner has a limited, deep groove issue of this lp on the wall with a $100 price tag, oh how I lust to own it. But $100??? I don't think so.
Anyway, on examining the $8 copy, a promo copy, all we saw was a faint scratch on 1st song, 2nd side, so I bought it.
Cleaned it this morning, the scratch is inaudible - yea!
What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
24 items for 11 bucks. You're killing me!
I spent $90 on aprox 20 50's era jazz CDs and $74 on aprox 50 LPs and thought I had scored.

How is the pressing on the Percy Faith? The JVC Supervinyl that MoFi used in its early LPs (and all of the UHQRs) was originally developed to meet the needs of CD-4 quad records. So some of the quad records out there were pressed on some really first rate quiet vinyl. (I know the story of the supervinyl, but have never been able to find a comprehensive list of what record companies used it in their quad releases.
Took my some for our annual prigrimage to PREX last Thurs.
Between the two of us we walked out with 39 LPs and 24 CDs. 8)
Unfortunately, this was not the Crack House so I had to part with a wee bit more than $20.10. :(
But we did come away withsome really nice stuff. I'll post details over on the "Waht are Oyu Listening to now thread as I get a chance to listen to them.

Tangerine Dream, especially the Exit album provided the soundtrack to a whole lot of my college studying.
If you look at back cover and turn it 90 degrees counter-clockwise (the opening will be at the bottom, be careful not to let the record fall out) the photo is of the entrance to the building that my wife worked in at her first job out of college. where the face is at the end of the hallway is actually a big number 32. Right before the number you turned left to of into the building .

One of us may have an import. I'll have to look at mine when I get home tonight.
Anyway, this is the back cover that I was talking about:
Does one actually listen to a Tangerine Dream album? I've always thought they were background music for doing other things...studying (see above), cleaning (usually slowly in a dreamlike state) and smoking pot (so I've heard).
I just made a nice haul of 90 vintage Deutsche Grammophone, Columbia 6 Eye, and RCA Red Seal records (among others).
Wow, nice haul is surely an understatement. The listed LPs alone make it a great find and I'm sure there is a lot more good stuff in the other 2/3s that you didn't itemize. Way to go! :thumb:
Did you grab these at a local store or was this an online find?

I bought them from a couple of sellers on eBay that I have come to trust. They usually give me a heads up if they are listing classical or jazz that might be of interest to me. It's hard for me to find the time to drive to record stores. There are several good ones in the Hartford area, but I only hit them once or twice a year. I wish I could get out there more often.

It's nice to have a relationship with guys like that.
Just remember you have to drive to a store tomorrow. It's National Record Store Day! :D
I only wish I could. Tomorrow also happens to be the "Jerome Gets to Spend His Weekend Working" celebration. Fortunately I will be working from home, but I will be chained to the desk in my home office all weekend. :(
On the bright side, I get to listen to music while I work. 8)

Thanks Bill, at least one of us is holding up our moral obligation to support National Record Store Day! :thumb:
I had a whole trip laid out making a loop trough all of the local record stores and then my wife's home health aid didn't show up. She told us last week that she was going to be in the West Indies this weekend for her son's wedding and evidently forgot to tell the agency so they never assigned a replacement... or so they say. But regardless of why, I am now stuck at home all day on nursing duty. (http://www.getsmileyface.com/new/angry/15.gif)

My brother-in-law lived in Zanesville OH and while he was still alive we used to meet several times a year somewhere around the Harrisburg/Lancaster area for weekend visits. Of course I would always try to hit the local record stores (as I do whenever I travel) and I have been to the Record Connection on several occasions and always came away with the same impression that you guys did. Although he has a nice selection the bargins there are few and far between. I always came away with something , but also ended up spending more that I had planned to on the way in (and not because I was walking out with boxes of cheap things from the dollar bins either.)
Congrats on the MMT album. That is a nice find. (Although I've never met a Beatles album that I didn't like.) As good as the CD remasters are, they still don't compare to a good condition LP.

I did a quick run thru the $1 boxes and from what I saw they were nothing but dumpster fodder
Well that's not good, maybe prices got bumped up due to increased floor traffic with RSD?
Hey, big disaster at the Crack House this weekend. They more than doubled the price on LPs.  :shock:They used to be 69 cents per album accross he board. Now the records are all individuallly priced satrting at $1.41 with others at $1.91 and $2.42. And there seems tro be no rhyme or reason as to what gets which price. :duh
This may end up craming my style a bit.... (well, maybe not.....)
Goggle maps says 1 hour 20 min. to the Record Connection (http://www.recordconnectionpa.com/directions.php) from Carlisle
To All:
I will be attending the Spring 2011 Carlisle, PA classic car show next week with two other buddies. (We've had this planned since their Fall show in October 2010!)
Unfortunately, the forecast calls for rain for the next gazillion years in Carlisle (according to weather.com) and the Carlisle Fairgrounds will most likely become one big mud puddle! :(
We may need to switch to "Plan B"... Do any of you know any audio and/or record shops near Carlisle or Boiling Springs, PA? :)
Thanks!
SN
Thanks, everyone. If my memory serves me correctly, Mechanicsberg is about 20-25 minutes East of Carlisle.

Hey Bill, if the weather is rotten on Friday there is a nice used record store in York and while you are there you can take the plant tour at the Harley factory. But check out the tour hours on the web. If I remember correctly they are closed on the weekends and I am not sure what time the last tour kicks off.
Hence the old flippable stylus for LP and 78s.
Hence the old flippable stylus for LP and 78s.
Never seen one of those. Were they primarily sold in the 50s and 60s? I bought my first turntable in 1974 and very few decks on the market back then even supported 78 rpm. My Sansui didn't, nor did the Kenwood and Technics that followed it.
I guess you would call them "record players"
Two styli per cantilever, one on each side. Flip the lever to get the other stylus. One is for 78s and one is for LP.
You know the kind drop down TT swing out speakers and a spindle for stacking LP's. My next TT was a semi auto Hitachi.......Bill
Did both styli track at the same VTF? Or did you adjust it whenever you switched? 78s generally require a much higher VTF than vinyl. My 78 setup tracks at 4.5g and my vinyl rig at 2.2g. If I tried to adjust the 78 down to 2.2 it would not track at that VTF...the stylus would skip right across the record.

The arms of that vintage didn't have any adjustments on them at all as far as I remember.
Just a plastic arm and if you had to replace the Cartridge you got the matching one from the factory. Of course given the materials they used back then the stylus (they called them needles back them) needed replacement quite often, but it was user replaceable and available at most electronics shops.

I don't even want to think about what the tracking weight was (I'm sure it was n excess of even the 4.5g you are using. And whenever you have trouble tracking a record (usually due to scratches) the common fix was to balance a quarter on top of the headshell (and carve your initials into the vinyl :duh)

Now that you mention it I remember that too, and we would start with a dime, then a penny, nickle, and finally a quarter. Thank god we never needed to use a half-dollar. (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-happy090.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

Mabye. But I am fairly certain that there's a gene in audiophiles that makes the money fly out of our wallets for records, CD, gear, and other audio related nick-nacks.
I was just chatting with Bill on the phone and buying a few records on eBay...and next thing you know I spent over $100 and I thought to myself, "What just happened?"

Remind be to limit my communications with Bill to E-mails. His phone calls sound too expensive.

That wont do it brother, I met Bill at Record Connection, was only going to buy '1 or 2', and walked out over $200 poorer, I think he sends out a subliminal measure that encourages others to buy stuff.
It's all Bill's fault. :duh
Damn! I went to the post office today and had no idea why.Jerome you are getting sleepy, sleepy now put the LPs in the mail

In celebration of Memorial Day that Crack House ran one of its 50% off sales. I usually do n ot do well at these sales because there are so many people picking through everything. Not unexpectedly I got completely sunked at the vinyl bins (well, StereoNut and I got them for about 25 albums on Sat afternoon (http://www.audionervosa.com/Smileys/default/eusa_whistle.gif) ) I went over to the CD racks and picked out 5 CDs only to find that all five of them had been shoplifted out of the cases.
I was just about ready to call it a day and leave empty handed when I sawe an entire grocery cart full of CDs being wheeled out of the back room. BINGO! I ended up getting 39 CDs, 1 SACD Hybrid and 2 DVD movies for under $36, including tax. (http://www.audionervosa.com/Smileys/default/eusa_dance.gif)
Nothing really rare or valuable, but lots of good music none the less.
Will post up details as I listen to them.

Wow, are you saying that your wife actually went to PREX with you? My wife has put up with a lot of stuff related to my audio hobby, but she draws the line at actually going into record stores with me. I might have been able to get her to go along for the ride to Princeton, but once we hit the main drag she would have been out of the car saying "I'll just check out these boutiques, call me when you are done in the record store."
Bill's wife has her own system...bet she picked up a few things herself.... :thumb:

42 items for $36. I'd call that just plain terrific Tom
You know guys something just hit me. Gene, the two Bill's (eleazar & StereoNut) and myself all had a really good week for software foraging. Do you think it was coincidental that this was the same week that Jerome was too busy building his new computer to do any music shpping? Maybe we should all take up a collection and once a year buy Jerome some computer parts so he takes a break from shopping for a while and leaves some good stuff behind for us?
All kidding aside, I really like reading about Jerome's conquests (as well as everybody else's). Hearing about somebody else's good fortune in music hunting is almost as much fun as finding things yourself. (Hey, I did say almost. )
Sometimes you just have to laugh at how crazy we all are in this hobby.

When I get the new tt you'll have to bring some of them down to test it. Especially DSOTM.
Anther big clearance sale at the Crack House this weekend. All CDs and LPs were being blown out at 2 for 99 cents. I ended up getting 30 CDs and 5 LPs for $14.50. Before you say it, I know the math doesn't work out. and when I tried to explain this to the cashier she just kept saying "No, I count." After 3 tries, I just gave up and handed her the $14.50.
That makes 75 CDs this week alone. :D Now I am really behind on my listening and posting.

You're buying jazz and I'm buying rock. What's up with that? :rofl:Role reversal it happens when the planets don't align just right

If the record is protected from bending with a piece of 1/8 hardboard it will be fine. Most record mailers have enough stiffness to protect it. It's only the odd time that it gets something heavy on top bending it and also too warm, not likely. The trucks are supposed to be AC. yeah right. If it's warped send it back.
Wow....score...all that for $5.00....nice Tom !!!! :thumb:
Yerterdays acquisitions at PREX on vinylOh c'mon, she's a good girl and deserves to get out of the house and buy stuff to!
plus 26 CD's 14 for me and 12 for the wife I think she should stay next trip
Stopped in at PREX prior to dropping Shadowlights speakers off and found some things on my 'must buy' list, both Lee Morgans & Blue Mitchell & Mulligan/Baker, and some other things that looked interesting. The Miles album was a replacement for a beat copy I had. Thought if I got into PREX early I could shop in peace and keep within budget, well budget part worked, but 2 NYAR members popped up and abused me. Damn New Yorkers!
Some new vinyl buys...
The Jazztet - Meet the Jazztet (Original Stereo Argo pressing)
The Jazztet - The Jazztet at Birdhouse (Original Stereo Argo pressing)
Max Roach + Four at Newport (Original EmArcy pressing)

Dammit - I don't think I have any of Lester's work. :duh
Back to the crackhouse.
I am so frustrated with trying to post with this crappy forum software that AN is using that I am about to quit posting here. I've had it.
Good suggestions, maybe I'll go watch some internet porn.
Later.

Last night all I wanted to do was post some Lester Young suggestions for Tom and Gene.
Nice selections with Blue and Stan T.
Now, who is Stan Kenton?
Edit: I found his wiki entry, looks like an interesting figure.

Do you do all your shopping via mail, or is there a record store hidden out there where the buffalo roam.
I wouldn't mind getting a 45rpm copy of Jackie's Bag and Lee-Way.

"For vintage vinyl I buy mostly from five sellers on eBay that I have come to trust."
That's what I was wondering about, guess I'll have to try.
Ordered some jazz vinyl reissues from Soundstage Direct
"At some point, whenever I can find the time, I plan to start a shootout thread comparing some of my original vintage jazz pressings to reissues"
That would be interesting.
Picked up quite a bit of software over the past week or so from various sources (J&R, the Crack House, mail order, not to mention a trip to PREX last Sunday )

Tom,
Thanx for boosting the economy here in Jersey.
Tell them what you paid for that title!
That's not the Bill I used to go through used records with.

Went shopping last night, added Rugolo and Kenton to my list. Got some Kenton, couldn't find any of the above Rugolo works. The Silver Spring Crack house had 3 titles, I think they were;
10 Saxophones and 2 Basses, Mercury PPS 2023
Rugolomania, Columbia CL-689
Adventures in Rhythm, Columbia CL-604
I didn't take any as I had a good haul, but wonder if they might have been worth grabbing.
Jerome?

Great album !! :thumb:
Dippin - Hank Mobley: (pricey as a 45rpm AcousTech remaster, but I spent the morning moving my furniture with my ex, and drove to Princeton to complete sale of my Scout, and dammit I deserved something!)
And 1 other thing, what was it, what was it...................?
There's a few boxed sets that looked interesting, 2 different Stan Kenton collections, 1 at $60 and 1 at $80.I saw the Sinatra set too.The price they were asking only worked out to $25 a record which is not that bad of a price but it still adds up to good hunk of change when you figure you have to buy 16 albums at once.
And the Sinatra I wanted was there as a MoFi release, but I didn't want to spend the money.
After watching this thread with intense jealousy, I am glad to announce that I found my own Crack House here in SC. The thrift store for an animal shelter apparently gets fed with the long standing inventory from one of the local record shops. They have bins full of CDs and more records than I have in my collection, and everything is 4 for a dollar.
I came away with 40+ CDs and half a dozen LPs for under $20. highlights include:

OK, here are the CDs from yesterday's PREX outing:

Dammit - left work early and drove to the Allentown crack house as he had posted he had gotten in some Porcupine Tree vinyl.
What he didn't post was that they went from $100 to $300.
As Geof Peterson would say - Balls!
Needless to say, no PT for me.
But since I was there............
Had to go to bed last night, too much driving.

I also took a trip to the local Salvation Army Thrift Store. This used to be a great source for vintage LPs years ago, and I would make a weekly pilgrimage there to snag my usual haul of black gold.
The quality of records you find there has declined in recent years. You might have to sift through 100 or so Jerry Vale or Lawrence Welk LPs to find one keeper. A lot of records too scratched up to be salvaged.
I couldn't make it to DDs today so I went to the Main Street Jukebox (close to home)
These all came from the $3 section

Wish the weather had been better as I'd of joined you, DD posted a ton of jazz titles as coming in today around noon time.
Now you're just being plain mean.  :cry:Weather was not an issue at 3pm the roads were clear that's why I waited you should have made the trip :thumb:
Never heard of that Beatles lp Bill.
In looking for them on Amazon I also came across another set in that series completely dedicated to the music of Miles Davis.
Stopped at the crack house today with the wife. Tom, you dodn;t leave me ANYTHING!!!!!
Walked out empty handed. :wtf:
At RadioActive again;
Mingus Ah Um Stereo - Charles Mingus
Africa/Brass - The John Coltrane Quartet
Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
Strangers in the Night - Frank Sinatra
Dark Side of the Mooon - Pink Floyd
Certified Live - Dave Mason
Immaculate copy of DSOTM, EU edition import, gatefold cover with all the goodies still stuffed in it. A reissue, I called Bill and the colors he said the original EMI-Harvest label had not the same as this, but I'm still excited to have found it. According to stevehoffman.com, I have an A2/B3 copy per dead wax markings, supposed to a better pressing, plus DOUG scratched in the dead wax.
The Kob is also near mint, I have a few of these, but you can't have enough clean copies. This is a 6 eye reissue.

Damn, now you've got one up on me. I have a British DSOTM, but not one marked as from the EU.
Oh well, you can't have them all (not that this ever stopped me from trying.)

OK, based on the pic you posted in the Just home thread it looks like the EU DOSTM pressing that you picked up is in fact one of the 30th Anniversary pressings. Not only do I have that one , I also have a couple of spare copies in case something happens to mine. (I told my kids to considered them life insurance for them - if they did anything to damage my copy I wouldn't have to kill them.)
I feel vindicated. :D
The good news is that it is a great find for you. IMO the 30th Anniversary edition is far and away the best sounding Dark Side LP ever produced. Enjoy! :thumb:
Tom - congrats to Bobby on hitting the milestone.
And control yourself at PREX - puh-lease, what's that nonsense!
Heading to FL next week, and looking to hit RadioActive as they posted a bunch of Jazz in, though some folks at AC have also discovered them, so there's competition now.
I never see Mercury Living Presence vinyl though I always look for it.
I would have bought more vinyl but Gene has been spending some of my money on scotch. (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-basic/smile.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

Couldn't post what I was listening to as it gets difficult real quick to type after the 1st 'tini. ;)
"I never really though of Scotch as an audiophile tweak before."I was once told, "Martini's are just like breasts... All you need is two..."
Works for me.
Though in fairness, I've just bought my 2nd bottle of Bombay Sapphire Gin in 3 weeks as J. has me on a martini kick.
It made a nice combo last night, Sinatra on the tt and 2 'tini's.

Most people just post pics here with no explanantion as to why they like it or which recording is good or not. Good luck on the hunt.

Records should be clean and shiny, without obvious cuts and scratches. Sometimes a record can be dirty and still sound wonderful; and clean shiny records can still have noise.
Usually a clean cover indicates a record received good care, but always examine the record itself to be as sure as you can be.

Bill texted me last weekend that he'd 'bird-dogged' some Porcupine Tree vinyl at Record Connection, so yesterday I drove up there.
From Record Connection;
Porcupine Tree CDs,
Signify
Stars Die
The Sky Moves Sideways
In Absentia
Metanoia
PT vinyl,
Up The Downstair
Voyager 34
Gen'l jazz vinyl,
We're All together Again For the First Time - Brubeck, Mulligan, Desmond, Dawson, Six
American Classic - Dexter Gordon
bashin': The Unpredictable Jimmy Smith - Jimmy Smith
The Dynamic Duo - Jimmy Smith & Wes Montgomery
I have the jimmy and Wes on CD and really like it, so had to grab the vinyl, a NM import from Germany.
And Bill brought me something I've been looking for;
Come Fly With Me - Frank Sinatra, a mint EMI100 reissue on 180g vinyl.
You pulled out my Fleetwood Mac albums, did we ever listen to them?
I am now.
I've been looking for a clean copy of Ready for Freddie, how's the playing in your opinion?
Ya, and who did you buy the Monkees for?
And the Kenton as well?

The Kenton is for Deepak
And I love the Monkees
Finally got back to Radioactive Records in Ft. Lauderdale, and scored some good stuff.
Seems a former A&R rep for Sony had come in 2 days before and sold off his collection. All the CBS Masterpiece reissues pictured are in pristine shape, all have the gold NOT FOR SALE TO THE PUBLIC stamp on them. All shiny, glossy black vinyl, little surface noise from what I sampled. The Take Five alone made the purchase worth it.
The rock titles were a throw-in, many I once had on cassette, long since gone. Also, all fairly clean.

LOUIS SMITH - SMITHVILLE (180G 45RPM 2LP)
From Music Direct.
Gotta love those Ansermets
SN - Nice score. I missed both those stores when I went to Albany.

Vinyl shopping withdrawal?
Spend time actually listening to your back-load?
Find another Salvation Army store near the new house?

And there are always road trips to Princeton......
Tom...
What are you loading your records into to move them ?
I need some ideas.... :duh

I need some ideas.... :duh
Chris we will be living out of both house for a few months before this whole thing is complete so I was thinking of just moving them a little at a time every time i got between the two houses (I have about a dozen milk crates I can use and just take a few each trip. I'm not sure how practical that is, but we will see how it goes and then maybe move to some kind of plan B.
But one of the things I have realized is in addition to thinking about how to load the records I am probably going to have to think about how to unload a good amount of the records. (Hence the posts from jimbones and BobM.)
So, there just maybe be a Vinyl Vampire garage sale in the not so distant future.
I will of course have a special preview day for all of my audiobuds, so that they can have first crack at things before I offer anything to the general public. (Tent sites will be available and I will be handing out wristbands starting at midnight the night before.)

They are hit and miss. They usually have a good selection of bootlegs for people who are into that, but you are right , they are not cheap, just local.
Give Infinty Records in Massapequa a try. I have more constsiant luck there. They certainly aren't PREX, but they are a better than average local store.

EVERYONE needs a copy of KoB, whether a jazz fan or not. Plus that looks like a better version, maybe 180g on silent vinyl?
Was that the Westbury or Levittown crack house? I stopped at the LCH on Saturday
Back on LI, this time hit Record Reserve on North side. A small place but good prices. Finally found a Peter Green title, plus he plays on the Mick Fleetwood title as Peter Greenbaum. 4 titles for $28.

Hey tom, keep an eye out for an audio rack for my daughter. You know, the typical black one with a glass door, or something similar.
I was at the crack House this weekend but they didn't have anything I could use.
Could it be????????? :-k
Look what I found online. A sealed NOS copy. Should be here around the end of next week.

Nice haul Tom!
Was going to go to beach yesterday, but forecast was for T-storms all day.
For past week, Pumpkinman's crackhouse had been showing some great, audiophile jazz pressings online, not the norm.
So I drove up to get Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue, as its one I've been looking for.
Well, it was a Music Matters release as most of the others I'd watched all week were. And he wanted $75, too rich for my blood.
But I did grab 2 MoFi releases from Miles 2nd great quintet;
Miles in the Sky
Filles de Kilimanjaro
At checkout, behind the register, was the MoFi boxed set of;
Kind of Blue
So that came home with me as well, even though it wasn't on my 'want' list.
Big Tag Sale score today. All LPs

DoubleDecker is the Allentown place. His prices have gone up since Bill introduced me to it in 2010.
Your points are all true Tom, but he's also opened up the right side of his place to a small audio shop, and I think he has a financial interest in that. Another reason to juice the prices. I don't begrudge him it, everyone has to make a living. But I need to find new places to spend my vinyl money, that's why I bring home so much vinyl from the road, there are deals to be had, albeit at a distance.
Right now my favorite places are in Richmond, VA and Riverside, CA. And I just learned of a place in Herndon, VA I need to check out.

Record Revival is in a sprawling flea market in Quakertown, just South of Allentown, good prices but you have to pick through everything.
What’s the name of the place in Riverside? Thx
Let me know couple of days in advance the next time you head over and I will join you guys.

Nick - that's Riverside, California.
If still interested, it's MadPlatter on the edge of the UC Riverside campus. There's a sister store called Rhino in Claremont, CA. I have clients in Riverside and Pomona so bounce between the 2 stores. Rhino is a little pricier, probably because Claremont more upscale. Luckily not there last week as they had a 4.4 earthquake. I've been through a 3.4 and wasn't thrilled about the experience, so glad I missed the 4.4.

I still have a low end Technics player, that I am thinking about putting to use with brand new unused Denon 110 or 103r cartridge. I am still not convinced about the ritual of cleaning and getting up every 20 minutes to fill the side .

(No, that is not how I picked him, but it is a nice perk. 8-[ )
Nice pick ups there. I'm curious, what was an average price for LP's in your area?
Both the P-Man and I have birthdays coming up in the next couple of weeks, so we figured we would get a head sttart on celebrating by meeting up at PREX this morning.

Nick, my son's wedding is coming up this Thursday, so things are very hectic right now. But once that is over and all of the out of town relatives head home I will try to sit down and post some of my insights on the show.
Made a trip to Prex yesterday with the Pumpkinman to celebrate his retirement. We also met up with Shadowlight who after shopping invited us over to his home for some delicious lunch and a bit of musical enjoyment. (If I live as close to PREX as he does I would be in a whole lot of trouble.)

Hey Tom, what kind of dress does one do "weeding" in? :rofl:Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha... aa
Sorry, couldn't resist. :thumb:
I went down to Washington DC this weekend to visit with Meredith's daughter. The girls went out weeding dress shopping and so I took the opportunity to check out one of the area record stores. Not a great place, but I was able to pick up a bunch of clearance bin stuff at 50% off. Nothing great, but stuff that was worth taking a shot at given the price,I guess I’m at the exact age for the Bobby Sherman thing. One older and one younger sister loved him at the time. I had to watch ‘Here Come The Brides’ every week. I would bet Meredith remembers the show. My younger sister invited Bobby to her 8th birthday party, but he didn’t show…

So I went over to the library this afternoon to return a few things and they had a bunch of CDs on the discard shelf. Usually these CDs are ones that have not seen much use and are being withdrawn from circulation and acre offered for sale at $1 each. But today there were quite a few discs that were obviously not retired Library discs, many of them still sealed. Was also a new sign saying that the CDs were now $1 each or 6 for $5.
I ended up finding 5 SACDs, 6 CDs and one 2 CD set. I told the woman I had an even dozen and handed her a $20 bill, expecting a 10 back in change. She returned and handed me $18 change saying that they were trying to move things out so they were having a one day 6 for a dollar sale!
Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time. :2thumb

A moment of silence please.

Sad to hear another record store biting the dust.
As for myself, I've completely stopped buying any used CDs at thrift shops and the local libraries. I haven't even listened to the ones I picked up more than 5 years ago!
