Made the Kuzma Plunge
« on: November 01, 2011, 12:50:09 PM »
Well we had to get a demo for y'all and me to. A Stabi S TT with out board power supply. A 12" Stogi S with VTA tower and Crystal  gold silver wire, oh my. Brass record clamp.
A new Goldnote Boboli HOMC 2mv cart will be installed at the factory.
Should be in within two weeks. Exciting times.

I still love my Stabi S/Stogi S.  Hard to beat at even it's current price point.

Charles, what is the outboard power supply you're referring to?

Info on the Stabi-s upgraded power supply:

I assume same as what Charles is getting, except 9 inch not 12 inch version, and without optional VTA adjuster.  Great deck, especially for used prices here in USA.  Sorry I ever sold it.

The external power supply is a step up however may not be worth the money if one does not own many 45 records.
Second thing is the improvement is small but audible on revealing systems. This is not an insult.
What does have a good affect on all systems is the record clamp. Either brass or Ebony depending on your cart. flavor.
The Maplsade tweeks as well. Especially the brass footers and Maple plinth supported by those cork and rubber thingies.
Stay put until we determine the difference with and without the power supply. Bang for the buck or just bang.

Ok tomorrow is "D" day Triode Pete is coming over to help, well put the TT together. Cyclops here needs some help.  :(
Have no fear Pete is here with Fozgometer in hand. If anything we will have perfect azmuith.
Anxious to hear the new Boboli HOMC as well as the Kuzma.

System consists of an amp a preamp, 2 speakers a turntable and a phono preamp, Also some cables and power cords and a really cheap cd player.

Charles, I know how much you revere sufficient break-in before judging a component. Don;t forget those little wires in the tonearm and cable connecting it to your phono stage. They will almost never break in with the small current generated by a cartridge. here's what I recomment.

- get 2 male RCA's from radio shack or a personal store.
- get some solid core wire of a guage that will fit nicely into your tonearm cartridge clips.
- soldier a separate wire to the + and another to the - side of each RCA
- plug the RCA's into the out of your CD player
- plug the other end of the solid core wire into your cartridge clips, making sure to get R +/- and L +/- correct
- plug the tonearm cable into your preamp, bypassing the phono stage (CD/AUX in).
- now burn those cables in using CD's for a couple of days. That's 2V coming out of your CD player as opposed to .7mv from a cartridge.

Good luck,
Bob

Bob thanks great tip. The tone arm wiring is Crystal Cable [ silver & gold wire]. Will give it a go.

Are you nuts?? Do NOT disconnect your cartridge clips, Mr. Magoo! The table & Boboli sound fantastic right out of the box! Burn in the cable with your high output Boboli!

Well first a HUGE thanks to Triode Pete for assembling the TT. Another thanks for the Fozgometer adjustments.
OK the sound. The Linn LP12 is now retired to greener pastures. Served me well for a long time.
The Kuzma and Boboli  combo was turned off at 3AM. Just could not stop listening.  LP after LP rediscovering my LP's again. You name it dynamics, clarity richness of tone,  harmonic structure, bass, soundfield [ no more soundstage with BSGT qol in now a soundfield ] in spades.
As good as it is having the BSGT qol in is unbelievable. Once "qoled" there is no turning back.
Yes it sounds excellent without the BSGT however when engaged the game is changed.
Minor quibbles with the TT are no finger lift or locking arm rest. That's it. Took a while for Cyclops to get used to putting the cart in line before releasing the arm rest.
This is not dealer hype or exaggeration in away way or form.
The truth and nothing but the truth. Come on over and hear it for yourself.

Don't need to, I have a Stogi Reference arm in the house!

And I previously owned Stabi s / Stogi s combo.   I've said it before and I'll say it again, Kuzma is excellent stuff!  Deserves much more acceptance than it has in this country.  But in a way its low profile is good for those folks that have the cajones to stray off the beaten path.  Keeps used prices down.    :thumb:
