Title: Door sweep
Post by: Carlman on February 25, 2009, 08:52:06 AM
I'm building up my sound room door.. and need a sweep.  They make automatic sweeps that drop down and seal the bottom.. I've seen them before.  Also, I remember seeing some that were made from silicon that were really nice.

My door will be a 1.75" solid door w/ weatherstripping.  It will 'outswing' so it opens out of the sound room.  There is carpet going in the sound room and hardwoods outside.  I was planning on running hardwood under the door halfway into the jam (or jamb?), and then having a wooden transistion strip be the only threshhold.

I've seen these automatic door jams create some nice seals on low-nap carpet... and that's what I'm looking for.. Anyone got any suggestions?

I'm not super concerned about sound leakage... mainly sound quality and keeping external sounds out.

I was also looking at the sound proofing mat here: http://www.soundproofing.org/sales/prices.html

Thanks,
Carl

  Yes, is there anything you don't have?
I forget the 'sweeping' array of products you carry.. or have access to.. ;)

We had one of these... and threw it out, kept trying to roll under the door. :(

So, did you have to buy a Snuggie Blanket  (http://snuggieblanket.com/) to deal with the cold? ;)

All kidding aside the stuff in that link would work rather well......but it would take some work to get it on the door right. You would want to create a bulb rubber seal on the bottom of the door. Basically you would take the rubber and staple it to the bottom of the door. When you are stapling you want to make a horse shoe type shape out of it for the bottom of the door. I have done it in the past and it works rather well if you get it right and it will blow the doors off of most standard sweeps.

The stuff at this link is pretty much what I was envisioning.. thanks, Rich.

Bacobits.. that link to Lowe's doesn't work for me.. not sure if that'd be a better option or not.

The door won't be here for 2 more weeks, maybe more.. So, plenty of time to think about it anyway.

All the other doors and trim get installed tomorrow. :)
