Radian LM10n planar driver and dspNexus
« on: January 07, 2023, 07:41:18 AM »
Received a pair of the new Radian LM10n wide range planar drivers for trials in an open baffle design.

Will be the second design to use the Danville Signal dspNexus 2x8 DSP as the crossover.

Now to get the baffles setup.

Scott,
If the weight and appearance of these are any indication, they are going to be very interesting once in a baffle.  They make the BG NEO10 to look like a pip squeak! :thumb:

First test baffles for the HAL Magnetar II open baffle planar speaker.  Trying for 190Hz to 20KHz from a single planar driver.  Below 190Hz will be either a 2x12 of 3x12 servo sub stack.

Will be setting it up with the prototype dspNexus 2x8 DSP crossover for the work and listening.

Work is progressing on the production version dspNexus 2x8 at Danville Signal.  Looking forward to trying it out with these.  Latest update is it will be released before AXPONA 2023.

The HAL Magnetar II planars are wired up and the Orchard Audio Starkrimson GaN Class D monoblocks are setup for testing.

Next is the DSP crossover for the dspNexus 2x8 for testing.

Starting tomorrow, testing of the Magnetar 2 speakers begins.  Will be using the new powered measurement mic option of the dspNexus 2x8 prototype as the latest firmware update has the options for use included.  Have a Behringer ECM8000 with calibration data files to try with Room EQ Wizard for the measurements.

The dspNexus 2x8 prototype is on the shelf waiting on balanced connections to the Orchard Audio Starkrimson monoblock amps connected with 2ft of Analysis Plus Clear Oval 14 speaker cable.  The monoblock sits on the end of the planar folded baffle.  An Intel NUC i5 will be running AudioWeaver for dspNexus 2x8 programming.

New room treatments arrive on Wednesday to install that are portable and hopefully going to LSAF2023 in Dallas, TX for the show.

That looks great, Rich. Glad you are making good progress.

Nick,
Thanks!

Making progress and hopefully setup for testing the Early Adopter version of the dspNexus 2x8 when it arrives.  The new ADC board has an analog balanced phono input with 40dB of gain and RIAA EQ for vinyl replay.  My prototype does not have the phono capability.

Have the dspNexus 2x8 connected to the Magnetar 2 monoblocks amp and new Rythmik Audio A370XLR3 Servo Amp. The Behringer ECM8000 is connected to the mic input for measurement use.

The mic ADC output goes to the USB2 output data for PC or MAC use with your measurement program. In this case will use Room EQ Wizard compared to CLIO Pocket system for crossover testing with the speaker.

Have the prototype dspNexus 2x8 setup with the Behringer ECM8000 measurement mic with calibration data with Room EQ Wizard.  Took a quasi-anechoic farfield measurement of the Radian LM10n planar in the baffle with the correction required from the first set of measurements.  This is the version of the DSP XO with those corrections implemented.  This made my day, when I know Jury Duty starts tomorrow!  The major amplitude division steps are 5dB. :)

That's a very nice looking curve.   Will a version of that be in Dallas at the LSAF?

That is my plan.

All depends on when the new baffles are ready.  Might be Aegean Blue high gloss paint or Barn Red stained red oak depending on which shop finishes first! :o

The Servo Amp boxes have to be painted first to match the subs.  Hot Rod Black low gloss all around for those.  Show some of the diversity of finishes possible.

There maybe a surprise in the prototype dspNexus 2x8 for listening trials as well.  Will see how testing goes. :)

Nick,
Here is a picture of the Monoliths in Aegean Blue Gloss finish.  It is a Honda color that I really like.  :)

Hope the Magnetar II's turn out as well.  It really is a cool color!
