Title: Vinyl to usb key
Post by: Guy 13 on September 03, 2019, 11:43:08 PM
Hi all.
I will transfer all my vinyl, CD, cassette to usb key or keys or External hard disk
when I'm back to Canada, because right now it's almost impossible to have any set up,
because the whole house is like a wharehouse, boxes everywhere.
I have my Rega P3 with AT phono amplifier, Rega Apollo CDPlayer and my Nakamichi BX-100.
I also have brand new Behringer and Steinberg ADC (Analog to digital converter).
Now, I've been browsing on the Internet to find a software that is both :
Free and super easy to use, no option for this and that, basic, very basic.
Are there any member that did Transfert (ripping).
I've already tried some time ago the Audicity and to me, wayyyyyyy too complicated
for my basic nuggen.
Waiting for suggestions.

Hi all.
28 views of my topic and not a single suggestion !
Humm mmm... I cannot believe that none of you did some
transfert from vinyl to CD or computer or USB key or external hard disc.
Do you all still spin vinyl ? ? ? ?

For your cd transfers, you can just use a program like Exact Audio Copy on a pc to rip the data directly to a hard drive.

Audacity or Audition are some of the simplest recording software to use.  You might look into Channel D Audio if you use a Mac.

Hi Hal
Just had a look at Exact Audio Copy and to me,
look like it's for CD (Digital) to computer (Again) digital.
Of course my Behringer and Steinberg are analog to digital,
therefore, it should work or would it ? ? ?

Guy I have zero experience doing that. Hal may be the most qualified to answer your question.

It is definitely something I will need to get into in the future, but as of now I have not yet tried it.

Hi TMAZZ and all.
Before my old computer (ASUS tower) died
I transfer (RIP) all my CDs to USB key.
Was fairly easy with the computer built in software.
However, I'm not sure under what format it was transfered.
I think I remember seeing 44 something...
It does sound good from my usb key to the computer then out to my
Schiit Fulla 2 and then to my stereo sound system.
Thats was fairly easy, but I would like to do it again,
but in higher resolution and the ultimate goal
would be the vinyl to usb key and that's where I need help.
Of course once in Canada,
I could hire a place where they do that professionnaly,
but that's lots of $ $ $ $ and I already purchase two ADC
(Analog to digital converter).

Ripping CDs to digital files is a fairly easy process as they have all of the track and timing information built into them and it si fairly easy to have software find track names and graphics form one of several databases on the web , like Gracenotes.

But LPs are a bit more complicated as when you record then you will end up with one continuous track per side which then needs to be parsed into tracks and titles added to them. I have seen one system of hardware and software at CAF that can parse and identify most albums, but it was rather pricey ($2k+) and it only ran on Macs which is a showstopper for me.  The process also needs to be done in realtime whereas a CD can be ripped in 10 - 20 minutes.

LPs can be done, they are just way more time consuming to rip than CDs
