Hi all.
I hope this is not off topic,
since my source is Internet Radio.
Relaxing music with instruments sound - timbre that I like.

Hi Nick.
Do you like it a little or a lot ?
Or, is it music to help you sleep or relax or what ? ? ?

Guy,
I did enjoy it. I liked it mostly for the instrumentation. I’m guessing that I was hearing a guitar and mandolin.

Alicia de Larrocha   Pianist    A collection of music of a dozen or so composers on London vinyl for some group called Classics Records Library
Apparently a Book of the Month club type thing... anyway, London quality and a great performer.

Mozart Fantasia in D min  K.475 - very advanced piece that share lots in common with Chopin
Mozart Sonata in C major K545 - some of which was simple enough that I used to play it as a kid.
Albeniz Cantos de Espana- just beautiful stuff.

There are 4 lp's with much more.

Art Farmer  "Art"   on the Argo label.

Art Farmer is just easy to listen to, but with enough behind the notes to make it interesting.  A buddy loaned my his 1960 pressing, so it went to the head of the play list.  Farmer is kind of a can't miss guy, sorta like Bill Evans on piano.

I just received a link to Vltava (The Moldau). I had never heard of Smetana before, but this piece is riveting.
My understanding is Smetana was deaf when writing this piece. What a genius, like Beethoven.

Smetana and Dvorak stand out as the great Czech late romantic composers.  If you liked The Moldau (and everyone should!), know that it's part of a greater work.  Check out Ma Vlast.

More Art Farmer this afternoon.  Just got this one unpacked.
Art and Benny Golson on an album named  "Here and Now"   Mercury MG 20698
Their rendition of "Ruby, My Dear" written by T. Monk, is one of those songs that will just stop you, lower your blood pressure, sooth your soul, and make you listen.

Bill Evans  "Trio 64"  on Verve w/ Gary Peacock on bass and Paul Motian on drums.
Why, because I just got a copy, VG+ 1964 pressing.
This is another lp that arrived a notch below as advertised, not the NM- that I paid for  :(
It has it moments, but mostly it's one of the weaker/ maybe weakest Bill Evans lp's I own.  Peacock on bass solos a lot without going anywhere interesting.  Motian does a nice job on drums.

What:  Bach Conc. for two Violins on blue label Angel s-36006   with Nathan Milstein and Erica Morini

Why: Although the Angel label his somewhat looked down upon, they would occasionally hit it out of the park.  I've found the blue angels of the 1960's to be about 50/50... and this one of the good ones, the really really good ones.  This is one you should look for over at Discogs and spend $20 for a clean copy.  Morini is such an accomplished violinist.  Heifetz reputedly asked her for tips on her trill technique, and couldn't reproduce it.  My mouse has died, and I am helpless to click and copy without it so no photo posted, but look it up.

I’ve searched both Tidal and Qobuz, but sadly can’t find it. Will play some Morini. Hadn’t heard of her, but I play very little classical music. Thanks for posting.

For a 22 year old (at the time or, uh, anytime) Senri is incredibly tasty.

That's good stuff, Dave!

Nick, Erica Morini does a version of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto on the Westminster label that is top notch, and it's on you tube.  I don't think there is a stereo version, but it will give you an idea of what she can do (and give you a reason to put together a mono vinyl rig!)
