Well, it's not what I meant, you've been to helpful in pointing out new musical directions for me to explore, I wouldn't be that disrespectful.

But still..................

Must be the hardheaded Irishman in me.

Check this, at PREX today, the color of an Impulse LP drew my eyes like a moth to flame, and it was this album. I thought of this thread, snickered, and moved on.

Lots of Impulse - well some - offerings but by artists I didn't have an interest in, or were interesting, but VG/VG+ quality, those are non-starters for me.

Stay tuned Jerome, I'll post something before night is out that will amuse you. :)

Well, it is only Johnny Hartman after all.

I don't think your dislike of Johnny Hartman makes it OK that I spent $60 on a 45RPM reissue that doesn't quite measure up sonically.

I'm sure that isn't what you meant, but that is how it read.

My bad.  I know it was just a friendly jab.

No worries.

Rather than jabbing, let me do for you what you've done for me, make a suggestion. When I want to hear a male voice singing jazz/blues, I put on Al Smith. He didn't do much, being more a gospel singer, but I thoroughly enjoy what I've found. From his bio;

"Al Smith was a “soul-blues singer” before critics invented the term. The Ohio-born vocalist had been a member of Leon Lumpkins’s innovative Gospel Clefs, and his singing retained the same “hugely surging passion,” in the words of Nat Hentoff, after he made the transition to rhythm and blues."

I like 'Hear My Blues'.

Where the Wild Things Are
Steve Vai | Format: Vinyl

So many people rave about this guy, but I don't get it. Sure, he's a flashy guitarist, but where's the soul?

I like 'Hear My Blues'.

Me too.  It's been a few years since I last gave it a spin, so it is long overdue.

This is the first disc from the 3 CD boxed set If You Got To Ask, You Ain't Got It, produced by Orrin Keepnews.  It's a great set and provides a nice overview of Fats Waller's career.  I consider Waller to be one of the most important figures in jazz in the 1930s, along side of Duke Ellington.  I recently stepped up and bought a collection of the entire recorded output of Waller, issued by JSP records on 31 CDs spread across 6 boxed sets.  Can't wait to receive that music.

Fontessa was the MJQ's debut album on Atlantic.  It's a great record that has on display a number of jazz styles: third stream, bop, and cool.

I saw this at PREX yesterday and contemplated taking it for a brief moment, but didn't.

Maybe TMAZZ will have grabbed it today.

Minty EmArcy deep groove mono pressing.

Stan Kenton | Format: Vinyl

Unlike the album cover here, I have a mono pressing.

Just liking this album more and more as I listen to it, thanks Jerome.
