Beethoven for Book Lovers: An Intimate Companion for Reading

A nice collection of Beethoven Chamber music appropriate for backgrounds of quiet activities like reading.

SQ  sounds decent on my computer speakers at work. If my opinion shifts significantly one way or another when played on the main system I'll post an update.

Track list here:

That looks like same the series as my Mozart for Monday Morning CD.

Same artist, same label, I think it is....   Mine is background music too, but better than silence.

Cinema Serenade: John Williams/Itzhak Perlman/Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

When the Crack House gets donations of CDs and DVDs in bulk holders, like CD wallets, the put two or more discs together in plastic bags and sell them off for cheap as loose discs.  This was packed in a bag with a jazz disc that I wanted so it just came home with me without a thought. Did not recognize the title and never would have picked it up on its own. But as it turns out this is a really nice disc. Nice music and given the personnel I don't think much needs to be said about the performance. All in all a pleasent surprise.  :D

When I looked on amazon to find the cover  jpg I noticed that Philips had put out a whole series of the classical samplers with a theme (Baroque at Bathtime, Bach for Breakfast, Tchaikovsky At Tea Time etc.) Nice for time when you need something to break the silence, but not distract you form something that needs your full attention.

  CBS Half Speed Mastered LP

I have never understood why these CBS Half Speed LP command the prices they do on the used market. They are not bad pressing and inmost cases better sounding that their stock counterparts, but given the other companies that were doing audiophile LPs at the time (MFSL, Nautilus, Direct Disc Labs etc.), they are certainly not at the top of the SQ pile. It must just be the artist lineup that they have.

Like they say with cable TV, "Content is King".

That said this is a fun 80s rock album with decent SQ (I also have the 1/2 Speed version.)

I have nothing against the Columbia Half Speed series as records, I am just puzzled as to why they have been given such a "collectable" status.

I bought 5 LPs total at an average of $11.00 a piece
