Radu Tarta at Simple Pleasures will custom build any amp you want. Would love to own his turbo 45 based on the 45b tube from EML.  He’s a great guy and has done some work for me on my preamp.

this looks like it might be another contender:

I’ve always wanted to listen to one of these in my system. But sadly, I can’t ever recall having had a speaker efficient enough to be driven by something like a Yamamoto.

Other than Border Patrol and Audio Note any suggestions for Rethm Saadhana speakers at 100db ?

charles

Charles, have you considered Pro Musica's 3rd generation upgrade to the Stereo ST-70? After you audition
one of those amps, you won't want a dht amplifier, and I have audition both 2nd, 3rd generation
and dht amps for some 20 years. Pro Musica blows them away in every catagory including "in touch with the music". Dan has both 2nd and 3rd generation amplifier with his LS3/5As, Harbeths etc and virtually nothing touches them.

Just something to check out, if you can find one, if you get a chance.

Steve,
Did a search and couldn’t find anything on a Pro Musica ST 70 mod. Can you provide a link?

Pro Musica retired, or the guys at least separated some years ago. Difficult to find an amp, Dan found one just a few months ago and immediately snapped it up. So it may be very difficult to find one since few sell theirs.

Don't mean to be a jerkish, just that if you find one, and it works, buy it. Even if a transformer is bad, you may be able to find a used tranny to repair it.

My amps were more accurate, but I never had a descent chassis that looked good and could reliably ship, nor nice looking trannies. That is why I mainly stuck to pre-amplifiers. UPS is nortorious for damaging products, FedEx seems a little better.
DHL was by far the best when they were around.

cheers

Steve,
Did another search and found this. Can’t say I’ve ever seen an ST 70 look this good. The only time I’ve really suffered severe damage from shipping was with Fed Ex. Beautiful speakers I returned to manufacturer were pretty trashed. Had them insured and Fed Ex paid claim promptly.

Unfortunately, Pro Musica, Champaign Illinois, is out of business. Yes, this amp looks nice indeed.

When I started in business, UPS damaged just about every professionally double boxed preamplifier. Found out that in
Chitown, a box can literally fall 50 feet. Very early on, tried FedEx and was better, although still some damaged packages. Switched to DHL had no damages at all, not one. Shame about DHL basically closing out USA.

As I recommend, if you find a Promusica Upgraded ST-70, esp 3rd revision, get it.

cheers

steve

I recently finished the design for my personal amp. I have to have different amps for testing other products. I am going with a traditional topology using the 300B for about 8 watts. Will be using upper end components but not overboard. Do have a few "tricks of the trade" that will be utilized that I have come up with over the years. Hope to get some time to start the build over the next few weeks.
This will not be a production product. Strictly for personal and testing purposes. I simply love the 300B sound.

I am [considering] an 845 build down the road.

Any decisions yet Charles on your amp?

Very nice. 211s are power houses. Really like the 6C33 as well. Had a few amps in the past that used these tubes. Forgot about the 6C33. May have to put that back on my list.
Right now working on the purity Master Reference preamp. Been working on this design for the past several years. Prototype auditioning has received great feedback  Finally ready to start the chassis design. Can wait to pair it up with the 300B amp. Now I just need a few more hours in the day. :duh

i saw these; look pretty interesting.  i know manley makes nice amps; i had a pair of mahi mahi's; i should have held on to them longer - shortly after i sold them, manley more than doubled the retail prices.  even then, they were worth it, imo.  but an absolute steal, prior...
