Sounds like a hoot. Congratulations to Mikey Fremer! My favorite amp reviewer.
I would try to attend, depending on the date. Good time to visit NY, when there's no chance of snow.
-
As long as the date isn't a conflict with something else for me, count me in.

Charles- I'm in for sure.

Can't make a definite commitment until I know the date, but I am definitely interested.

Why bother with this?
-
I was going to say that too.
Who the hell is this Mickey Fremer anyway????
Sorry :?

I'm being facetious of course. I've been in this hobby for 30 years.
Fremer has been around a long time. Lets have an "Honorary Dinner" for say, Richie.
Now, that is more befitting I think. AND, that is not a joke.

Why ? Our club voted to do this, that's why. Mike Fremer in our opinion is one of the leading reviewers and has enlightened many with his experience in analog. Years ago we honored Harry Pearson with a dinner which turned out very well. All had a great time mingling with Harry and the invited industry guests.
Sorry if you do not agree, as you are entitled to your opinion, but please don't rain on our parade thank you.

This idea has been kicking around the Syndrome for the better part of a year. At the March meeting (you were there) it was finally brought up as a formal business item and not only was it approved unanimously by the membership, there was not even one negative comment made about the idea when we discussed it.
Mike Fremer is not only one of the most highly respected writers in the industry (and as a die hard analog guy my favorite reviewer), but he is personally a heck of a nice guy. The last time we did something like this was the dinner we had for Harry Pearson which I thought was a resounding success and in all the years since then I have never found anyone who disagreed with that. In addition to any manufacturers or members of the audio press that may attend and event like this also presents us withe the opportunity to meet face to face with audiophiles from other clubs in the area many of which we only know through electronic forums such as this and AC.
All in all what's not to like. If you are all of a sudden that against the idea, nobody is forcing you to attend. Feel free to stay home
-
I'm interested.
I find the negative comments rather odd.
-
Sounds like a great night. Count me in Charles- I also sent you an affirmative PM.

You're not the only one. :-k

Cool Barry, love to have you. Thanks for the support. We are trying to bring the cost down. The $75 price is an upset number. We are trying to bring it in for less.

Are Syndrome members allowed to bring "outside" guests? I have a few audio friends in mind (although they're not all local) that might be interested.
Thanks!

Well I've never been to a "Syndrome" meeting before, never mind paid dues, and they seem to think I'm ok ;)

Let's not get ahead of ourselves Barry- just because Rollo is president doesn't mean he speaks for all of us. What do you think guys, can Barry come?

Darn! I should've kept my big mouth shut :duh

I think the idea is to get all the local audio clubs involved. Also the more the people the better.
It would bestow more honor I believe to be honored with a room full of people than just a select few.
I can seriously imagine 100 to 200 people that we can connect together from 6 degrees of seperation, that might be interested in attending.
NY audiophile society, NJ audiophile society, Audio Syndrone, NYAR, Gotham , and more I am sure.
Get some dealers, industry people, and other reviewers involved and it could get large.
The only requirement for entry should be what the cost of the dinner would be.
Inclusive is the theme, not exclusive 8)
Also the more people we have the lower the costs.
Having been to many raves, I can only imagine what a party it would be with 200+ audiophiles together!
200+ opinions
I wouldn't miss it!
I nominate BobM as treasurer :thumb:

Mike,
I think some of us were just having a little fun yanking Barry around a bit (hey, he started it.) All in good fun. But IMO I think you have the basic idea of the thing. The more the merrier. 200+ would be nice but may not be practical depending on where we end up holding it. I think that was part of the reason that Rollo started this thread, to try ad gauge what kind of interest there was in this idea so we can get a better handle on what kind of place we will need to look for.
Hope to see you there! :thumb:

Looks like Sept will be the month. An exact date will be decided upon depending on Mr. Fremers schedule. If we can get a sit down dinner for a reasonable price done, if not a buffet. live music is planned as well as a some LPs.
We will be inviting all local audio clubs, the editorial staff from Sterophile as well as manfs and dealers.
Hope to see ya all there. Please if interested contact me or Tom mazz.

As Mr. Kite told us "A pleasent time is guaranteed for all."
(Unfortunately this time he won't be topping the bill.)

Charles- I've been e-mailing lately with JA, KR and Mikey over at Stereophile in regard to the Ayre review in the current issue. It occurred to me that we have not heard anything of late about the "dinner". Is it still being planned? Thanks.
Russ
PS- My Oppo BDP-93 (I'm an early adopter of their newest model) is sitting in the Fed Exp wharehouse in Sacramento. Can't wait to fire it up; hopefully this weekend. :)
