Title: SqueezeBox Touch Still Kickin' it!
Post by: mresseguie on November 08, 2019, 05:40:27 PM
Holy Wifi music, Batman!

Someone on AC listed a WTB: SBT, so I answered it saying I've got an SBT sitting in a sack feeling unloved and unused. I even have the original box and manual! I pulled it out, plugged it into my cheapo Chinese-made DACT (sp?) volume control + Folsom's Little Chip amp and my OB speakers.....and....I'll be damned if it isn't making pretty decent sounding music!

I may just keep this sucker after all.

Anyone out there still have one?

Never owned the SBT, just a modded SB2. It was my start with wifi streaming about 10-12 years ago  :)

Yes, still have one sitting in its box.   Gave up after Logitech got out of SB software.

I've got two SBTs (and an SB3) that still work great.   Up until recently I've been using the SBTs as Roon endpoints.  I've since replaced them with PecanPi Streamers that do sound better but not nearly as slick looking as the SB Touches.  It's too bad Logitech didn't support that tech better after they bought it from SlimDevices.   They were way ahead of the curve.

I've wondered more than once if the PecanPi streamers would be a reasonable replacement for my SBT. Now that it's connected in my office, I suddenly doubt I want to sell it. I don't listen critically in this room. I listen to background music (Tidal), watch YouTube videos, and listen to news......I can't imagine an SBT is worth much anymore.

Hi all.
Technologie is changing so fast that it is not easy to keep up.
Plus manufacturers discountinue all the time good products.
Value of discountinued products goes down a lot
and people don't want those old products.
To me, I prefer to keep the products (Use it or not) instead
of getting insulted with a ridiculous offer.
When you paid 1,000 USD for something and the potential buyer offer you
100 or 200 USD, might as well keep it.
My table top Internet radio (Grace Digital Mondo) is or was a direct competitor to SBT
and lucky me, it's still available.
I might buy another one when I'm back in Canada, use it as a spare - back-up just in case.
I hope I am in focus with the original post - topic.

Guy,

No worries from me.  :thumb:

I think I paid around $300(?) about 5 years ago. The fellow who is looking to purchase an SBT hasn't responded back since I sent him a couple photos. I don't even know what price he's thinking of offering. Meh....Offer a lot and I might sell it; offer me $50 and I'll keep it.

Hi mressequie.
Now I might go off topic...
If I do, I will accept any punishment, such as :
Spread with honey and thrown in a barrel of red ants.
Next year after my Vietnamese wife forced me to go back to my home country,
I will have lots and lots of audio stuff to sell
and I'm sure selling all those items wont be easy
and I will get insulted many times with ridiculous offers.
The buyers thinking that I am stuck with those items and-or
I am on the verge on bankruptcy.
Well, there are in for a surprise,
I will keep the stuff instead of letting it go for peanuts...
For example, my GR Research V1 refrigirator size speakers,
I want 2,000 Cnd$ (They costed me more than that)
they are big and in my new appartment I wont have room for them,
so I might let them go for 1,000 $ or who knows, maybe even less.
No shipping fr those pair of monsters, pick up only in Montreal.

Wow! Those are big speakers!

When do you move to Montreal? My wife and I will fly to Taiwan in one week.

Hi mresseguie.
We should get the papers from Immigration Quebec
(Already have the ones from Immigration Canada)
around March 2020 and then, we have 6 months to get to Montreal,
we still haven't sold our first house, we will keep the second one (The bigger one)
as secondary residence when we miss too much planet Vietnam and it's 30C+
So next week, we will be neighbour, well, more or less.
Have a nice trip.
My last trip from Toronto to Manilla, Philippine flying over North pole
was 16 heors and 15 minutes,
wayyyyyyyyy toooooo looooong.
When we will go to Montreal next year,
I will tryto get tickets from Saigon to Hong Kong and to Vancouver and to Montreal.
I find it easier to break the trip into smaller portions.

The PecanPi iss a perfect replacement for my SB Touch for two reasons:

1) It absolutely sounds better (much better DAC) and that's in my dining room/kitchen area where I thought I only wanted it for background music.   That was right up until I got to hear the PecanPi and realized just how much better it sounded.  Hey, it's still primarily background music, just better sounding - particularly when I crank it up while cooking.

2) I wanted to be able to play multiple zones in sync and that requires Roon Ready devices to work with my Devialet.   The PecanPi is (Roon Bridge on Ropieee) but the SB Touch is not.

Hey, I first jumped on Roon nearly 4 years ago when they came out for support of the various Squeezeboxes.   So that gave them an extended 4 years of life.   And, in truth, I'm still using an SB Touch for occasional listening on my outside porch and an SB Radio in the bedroom.

I would sell them now if I could get a decent price, but I suspect it would be less than $100 each and for that, I'll hang on to them.

Used SBTs are all over ebay and Amazon for $100 - $150.  So if this guy was willing to pay that much he would have one already. If he is snooping around the forums looking for one it is not likely that you would get anything other than a real lowball offer,.

Yeah. I got curious about going prices and checked Hifishark. Sure enough, $100 to $150 seemed to be the range.

Perhaps, this guy takes weekends off to play and doesn't email. Perhaps, I'll just let it dangle for a few days.
