Rich,

Did you ever hear if she resolved her family problems and resumed touring or is she still on the sidelines?

Scratch
The Crusaders

Brilliant live recording of the jazz-funk masters at their peak.  One of the last live recordings before the exodus of trombonist Wayne Henderson and the band's lane change into a pop groove.  Features guest appearances from Max Bennett on bass and Larry Carlton (in fine form) on guitar.

on vinyl...it's been too long.

OK, Thursday night's 70s Rock night has kind of morphed into a 70s Rock weekend. (it's amazing how much you get to listen to when you are working on the house for the whole weekend  8) )

It would be immoral to have a 70s rock weekend and not play the album that remained on the Billboard Charts for almost the entire decade of the 70s (and most of the 80s for that matter.)

This is also the first piece of music all weekend that wasn't source from vinyl - I am listening to the 30th Anniversary SACD on my computer.

A gorgeous sounding album. Smart but easy and satisfying music by contemporary Israeli composer Avner Dorman. Not often hear mandolin or piccolo get their own concerto. These both are beautiful and played to perfection. Typical Naxos audiophile quality sound.  Very dynamic and propulsive.

Another Naxos CD I recently got for $7 from ArkivMusik.com. Max Bruch is a great composer. I love Violin Concertos. Been slacking off lately without hifi speakers. But they still sound pretty good on these MDF horns. The horns' days are numbered tho...

You know, they are not Keith Johnson Reference Recordings, but I have never heard a bad sounding disc from Naxos. And for $7........ :thumb:

Had a real busy day building a wheelchair ramp to get my wife into the house when she gets released form the hospital this week. Given that most of my listening for the day was done outdoors with CDs on a boombox. Not the best of sound, but good music made the workday go faster.  :)

So here is the remainder of the playlist from 70s Rock Weekend

The Alan Parsons Project: Pyramid

I thought this would be a appropriate segue from DOSTM since Alan Parsons was the Abbey Road engineer assigned to the sessions that produced that legendary Pink Floyd album.

Carole King & James Taylor: Live at the Troubadour

Technically not a 70s albums, but rather a recently recorded concert of mostly 70s music. I think that's close enough.

Jim Croce: Live-The Final Tour

While this disc has marginal sonics, Croce had wonderful stage presence so this one can get a recommendation on performance alone.

Aztec Two-Step

Nice early 70s folk-rock.  They were never a really big success commercially, but 2-Step always seemed to maintain a loyal following in the NYC area
