Seiko Matsuda: Seiko Jazz 2

Qobuz 48/24 Streaming

A well recorded but rather generic collection of female jazz vocals. Not that it is bad, but there is just nothing very exciting about the album (except maybe the cover art.  ;) )

Oh, wow! It's Seiko Matsuda! Didn't know she went into jazz singing. How did you come across this? Was this promoted on Qobuz?

I don't know if I would call it promoted, it just popped up in the new releases list.

Michael Hedges: Torched

Tidal Streaming

Torched is a collection of demo recordings that guitarist Michael Hedges was working on at the time of his fatal automobile accident in December 1997.

Although they are put out there as demo recordings, you would never know that by just listening to them as the SQ is as good as most full fledged studio albums.

Miles Davis ‎– Kind Of Blue

The web is abuzz with the fact that today marks the 60th anniversary of the start of the KoB recording sessions. Reason enough to put it on.

Since I haven't played this under current system configuration was going to root out the MoFi version, but the Legacy pressing Jerome sent me a few years back was on the mantel, so its now spinning.

Damn, this sounds good!

Very nice Tom, I may pull out the MoFi version tomorrow or Monday if we get this snow the weather geeks are calling for, meanwhile.......

Miles Davis ‎– Milestones

I think the vinyl copy still in basement but the Legacy CD dedicated to the 75th Miles Davis anniversary is right here, so.....

https://www.amazon.com/Miles-Perfect-Davis-Collection/dp/B005ELZNH0/ref=sr_1_1?crid=324TB23C52AYH&keywords=miles+davis+box+set+cd&qid=1551619046&s=music&sprefix=miles+davis+box+set%2Cpopular%2C147&sr=1-1

I know you already have a whole bunch of these albums, but at the price the get for this set it very well may be worth it  to pick up just for the ones you need.

The SQ is very good and all 22 CDs in the box take up about the same amount of shelf space as 5 or 6 CDs in standard jewel cases.

I had this at one time on Vinyl a long time ago when it was first released and a few years before I had decent gear. Now it's on flac but no less enjoyable.

JImmy Giuffre  "Tangents in Jazz"
I picked up this 1956 Capitol first pressing a couple of days ago because it was pristine and $3 (a rare combination).  Turns out it's very good jazz with a bit of an experimental twist.  Although the drum and bass are prominent, they don't set the beat, instead playing riffs on their own.  The beat is driven by trumpet and clarinet mostly, leading to an interesting Cool Jazz sound.  Find a copy if you can.
