portable digital music player advice needed
« on: March 29, 2015, 08:59:21 AM »
Hi,
I'm looking for a music player to use on the go.  Needs big capacity, so I won't be using my iphone 32gig as player.

micro drive storage would be fine.  I'll be feeding an ADL DAC/headphone amp to either ear bud IEM's or my Audeze El8 headphones.

short list now has Ibasso dx50 and dx90.  What other brands would you guys consider?   not really wanting to venture into the AK player relm.

You want a USB out to the amp, right?

Edit: Fiio X5?

ADL amp/dac can accept USB or 3.5mm stereo input

iFI micro DSD can accept both USB, 3.5mm input plus spdif, and spdif optical.

with all the cable combinations available at  both ends by the cable companies do I need to be concerned with what the portable media player has for output connections?  hadn't really given that much thought.  just figured there's connectors for everything.

I think only phones/computers have USB out.

iBasso has SPDIF output.
iFi reclocks SPDIF and USB input to <0.25pS. That's really good.
ADL X1 has no SPDIF input, but it does have apple input for when you are travelling light.  :thumb:

Hi,

I use an iBasso DX50 with JDS labs C5 and Mad Dog headphones.  The iBasso is pretty good but a modified iMod 80 gig with ALO audio interconnect is far better.  The iMod is so good that I also use it with a little Virtue Audio One.3 and Nuforce S9 speakers.  Great combination.

Cheers Rod
