Julie London: Julie is Her Name
Real Gone Jazz CD
This is part of set called Julie London: Eight Classic Albums. These are British releases that came about when a bunch of classic Jazz album became public domain in Great Brittan after 50 years. I have several sets from this series and most have decent, although not reference quality sound. Yes I have heard better sounding version, but these 8 album sets are selling for less than most single CDs. They are certainly good enough for the car or my ipod and they give me a chance to hear these albums and then decide which ones are worth perusing in higher quality (and of course higher priced) versions.
I have read that most of the albums in this series were mastered off of other CDs, but several albums in the Julie London set were mastered off of LPs and contain some of the surface noise on those albums. If I picked up a reasonable priced vintage LP with this much surface noise I would not be that upset, but you just don't expect to hear
any on a CD. However given what you are getting for the price I still do not think it was a bad purchase.
