You did clean the stylus prior to putting on the ORG version, right???

Actually no.  I'm not particularly anal about it, and it is my experience that cleaning the stylus after every LP or two is unnecessary.  Doing it after every side like Michael Fremer recommends is absurd.

I use a Onzow Zerodust every few days and I wet clean the stylus monthly.  I won't break from that routine because one record has poor sound.

Well, it is only Johnny Hartman after all.

I don't think your dislike of Johnny Hartman makes it OK that I spent $60 on a 45RPM reissue that doesn't quite measure up sonically.

I'm sure that isn't what you meant, but that is how it read.

Jerome, thanks for the thorough and well thought out comparison. Even if it was a little off the track for this thread I think it was worth the  brief diversion.

And not back to our regularly scheduled thread.... already in progress

Toscanini and the Philharmonic-symphony of New York, Sorcerer's Apprentice-dukas, Semiramide Overture-rossini, Latraviata: Preludes to Acts 1 & 3-verdi, Siegfried Idyll-wagner

RCA Camden LP

The surface was a bit rough and noisy but if you can get past that the SQ us surprisingly good and the performance is well... Toscanini, whatmore needs to be said.

Music from Walt Disney's Fantasia

London Phase 4

My son picked this one out of the  dollar bin at Infinity laqst weekend. I pulled it out Bernard Herman/London Symphony version of trhe Socerer's Apprentice to the Toscanini in the last post. While the SQ was significantly better but Herman just did not have fire in his belly that Toscanini did. So so you trade off SQ for performance. Take yout pick

Mark O"Connor: Stone From Which the Arch was Made

WB LP

Much more of a Jazz and/or Pop-Rock style than I am used to hearing on an O'Connor album, but good music none-the-less.

David Grisman 's Dawg Jazz / Dawg Grass

WB Promo LP

From Amazon:
After several projects that hinted at his interest in jazz, David Grisman split this album between swing and bluegrass. The four jazz numbers include a big-band outing on "Dawg Jazz," and a guest appearance by violinist Stephane Grappelli on "Steppin' With Stephane," an appearance by violinist Darol Anger on "Fumblebee," and a version of "In a Sentimental Mood" with both Grappelli and Anger. The flip side of the LP finds Grisman's string group, Mike Marshal, Tony Rice, Rob Wasserman plus guest banjoist Earl Scruggs, stretching the boundaries of the bluegrass idiom on tunes such as "Swamp Dawg," "Dawggy Mountain Breakdown," and "Happy Birthday, Bill Monroe." A diverse and continually interesting set.
