Shorter was playing for Maynard Ferguson's big band and wanted out when he talked to Lee at a jazz festival, who then arranged an audition with Blakey.  I bet that set is really nice Gene. I'm gonna check it out. They are my favorite front line.

Ain't That America: The Bluegrass Tribute to John Mellencamp

CD

Just a fun album. Mellencamp's music really lends itself to the bluegrass treatment

Verve Unmixed 3

CD

Classic Verve recordings remixed to give them a dance club flavor. I don't know about anyone else, but idf I want toi listen to Dinah Washingtone or Billie Holiday, I will listen to Dinah Washingtone or Billie Holiday and if O want to listen to club music, I'll listen to club music. But IMO never the twain shall meet. Just not my cup of tea, YMMV. The best part of this disc wa that I got it from the library, so I can send it back, no harm, no fowl.

Peter Concotti (Self Titled)

Concord CD

I like this one better than East of Angel Town, which I got from the library after finding this disc at the Crack House.

We interupt this string of backlogged CD postings for a report on what I am really listening to right now.................

The FedEx man brought me a box really magical vinyl goodies this morning.

Carole King: The Carnegie Hall Concert - June 18, 1971

MoFi 2 LP Set

Great music, Great performance, Great sound

From the MusicDirect web site:
"Mobile Fidelity's remastered sound ties everything together and is what makes this release extra special. By going to the original source, the audiophile label considerably opens up the sonic perspectives, revealing the spacious acoustics of the famed venue that act in concert with King’s music. In particular, the songs from Writer benefit from the no-nonsense production. You can literally picture King’s piano beside her, and her voice—sincere, tender, melodic—is rich, full-bodied, and penetrating. Listeners can even hear it crack on occasion, the results a consequence of her nerves. Unpolished and non-synthetic, the performance is better for it."

On a personal note getting this album right now is kind of timely to me as Tapestry was my wife's favorite record and this is a live performance of (almost) the entire album.

McCartney

2 LP Set (180g)

Although I didn't have time to go back and make a direct comparison, I got the feeling that the SQ on this album was better that that of the concurrently released 180g McCartney II set. I think this is because it is a simpler production (Both were recorder in McCartney's home on his own 2" Studer tape deck and are true solo albums with Paul playing every single instrument.) My only beef is that the second disc of bonus tracks is rather short. If they are going to go through the trouble of pressing a second LP (and charging us for it), I would think the least they could do is fill it up. (It's not like there is any shortage of McCartney material to choose from.) But that aside, it is still a very enjoyable release.
