It's still crazy busy at work but I'm not complaining.  There are a lot of people unemployed who would love nothing more than to have too much work on their hands.  So when I get real busy like this I count my blessings.

I bought this record over a month ago.  This original Columbia 6 Eye LP had no shrink wrap.  The jacket looked pretty nice but it wasn't pristine; there were mild signs of ring wear.  But what was inside was a rare find indeed.  The LP was still sealed in the original poly bag with the genuine Columbia Stereo Fildelity markings on it.  Now, sealed vintage LPs are not guarantees of perfection.  It is only a guarantee that the record has not been played.  I have had a few disappointments with some sealed vintage LPs.  I had an original Contemporary pressing of a great Shelly Manne recording that was loaded with pressing defects and was probably better suited for the land fill than a turntable.  The truely great news with this Ellington record is that there were no defects at all, and it was a rare privilege listening to this virgin record.  Anyone who likes female vocals owes it themselves to hear the fantastic Mahalia Jackson sing.  And of course it is Ellington, with Cat Anderson and Ray Nance doing much of the featured soloing.

Sure, love to hear new to me female vocals, bring it on by, or just ship it to me if you're tied up at work.

Another Ellington 6-Eye original.  Some wonderful solo work turned in by Johnny Hodges on Mood Indigo.

Analogue Productions 45RPM reissue on two 180g LPs.  This is from the Bill Evans Complete Riverside Recordings 45RPM boxed set.  Expensive...but worth every penny.

Music Matters reissue on two 180g 45RPM long players.  Today is the first day off I have had in a month and I intend to make the most of it since I have to work all day tomorrow.  I have been really missing my music and have a huge backlog of stuff.

Inception. The first time I heard that it was spinning on the air at a radio station I was visiting. WERS in Boston, Emerson University, they had a great afternoon jazz show called "The Jazz Oasis."
