Wife is working late tonight, dinner is done, and I'm in the mood for some vinyl.  Brought down a nice little stack from my bedroom where I store my records.

Woo Who!!!  :thumb:

I need a record cleaner.

I can highly recommend the VPI 16.5. Have had mine for probably 20 years now and it has never skipped a beat. And I use mine a lot!

Shelley Manne and His Men, The Gambit

Original 1958 Contemporary LP

I think it's mono, because the jacket doesn't say stereo, and the soundfield is very narrow. But there does seem to be a sense of space. The whole image is shifted 5 degrees to the left of center. Whatever, the music is great. Cymbals especially sound so nice on vinyl. Maybe because the recording rolls off at 15kHz?

Good to know Tom. I saw one on Craig's List last week.

I'm feelin' a major jazz attack coming on.

Well maybe not right now but soon.  I'm expecting another largish order of classical LPs to arrive tomorrow and I want to go through a lot of those.  But I suspect soon that my current run on classical titles will end and I will get back to listening to jazz regularly.  I'm starting to miss it.

Original 1968 RCA Victor LP. This one magically appeared in my collection. I don't know how it got there, or when. I've never listened to it before. Hmm...  :-k

Sound quality is excellent. Pan is too wide, but tone is good. The tunes and jams are a little cerebral, typical of that period and especially of Burton. He taught at Berklee when I attended. Larry Coryell, Steve Swallow, Bob Moses.

EDIT: Halfway through, this record JAMS!! Lihgtspeed vibraphone pyrotechnics, and some serious straight ahead grooves. Heavies working it out with a small but appreciative live audience.

From the photo it looks like the latest version. $350 is a pretty good price. used ones on A'gon usually go for $400 and up.

And a nice pile it is. Too bad I can't hook a streaming link into your system right now.  It would be kinda like "Phone a Friend" on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.  8)

Not a bad idea Tom. A little black box with line in, line out, and an ethernet connection and a password... ;)  I can only upload at 300kbps, so you can only have mp3 stream.

A Polydor LP reissue from 1980s, with the original cover art, not this "Master Takes" cover for the CD compilation.  This LP has two quintet takes of "Relaxin with Lee," with Dizzy, before the strings tracks start. Bird really wails on this. He was so happy during this time, and so proud of this band, his recovery, and this recording. He played every night with this string band for months. Makes me want to hear my Clifford Brown with Strings (on CD)

I paid $375 for a little used one from another member, and consider it money well spent.
