Searching for Beethoven
« on: June 02, 2010, 11:54:18 AM »
Recently watched the movie, 'Searching for Beethoven' and want to recommend it to anyone interested in, well, Beethoven (or classical music of his time).
Nicely edited mix of performances (both concerts and at-home pianists practicing) and interviews with conductors musicians and historians--about his music and his life. Especially enjoyed the commentary by Emanuel Ax.

'Copying Beethoven' was also an enjoyable movie (note: it IS a movie, not a documentary).

Thanks Richard, I will check this out.
Did you ever see the movie about Shostakovich? (famous actor I forget) also there was a Mahler movie that was kinda weird but great, forget the names of these movies.

Thanks for the tip Richard. Some trailers are on Utoob.

The Shosty movie is called "Testimony" starring Ben Kingsley. I ran across it by accident playing on Ovation TV last year, I loved it.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz7BCKV34Ok
