Pickup a Dehavilland Mercury 3 Preamp

This preamp is centered around the Type 85 Vacumm tube. Who does that?

Hate to use the cliche that I'm hearing things in the recording that I've never heard before but its TRUE!

It surpasses my Ultravere 3 in every way expect it doesnt have the lower midrange, upper bass punch. I'm sure it has something to do with the 85 Tube.

Moreover, it has a remote! The convenience of adjusting the volume from the listening position should not be underestimated. Volume control from one song to the next or during certain parts of the song enhances the listening experience IMHO.

I saw that come up, but you have faster trigger than me.  :thumb:

6sn7 is famous for that upper bass fatness so the 85 is probably more neutral.

Just finished listening to Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper"

I swear I have never heard the cowbell as clear and distinct before.

Where it once was just indistinguishable in a mass of sound, it now occupies its own space; a palpable presence if you will.

Emil,
I have two Jupiter copper foil caps in 1.0 uf values that you might be able to use. I had them in my preamp, but replaced them with Slagle transformers, they might give you back a little of the midrange love the 6sn7 had. Best cap I ever heard, like a cross between teflon and paper in oil.

Ask Karra if they would work in that position
