Tube Comparison
« on: May 03, 2019, 10:16:01 AM »
I have a quad of JJ KT88s from approximately year 2000. The pins are smaller but supposively new tubes are ok
pin wise.

What I am wondering is has the "sound" changed from between 2000 to now? In otherwards,
if I were to purchase new JJ KT88s, would the sound be different from the old JJs?

Second question, has any one compared the typical $37.00 chinese tubes to the JJ KT88s? What is the sonic difference?

Thanks for any insights.

Steve unless a different run or batch the answer is no. JJ's IMHO are quite good overall vs NOS. I found that any inexpensive Chinese tubes are unreliable as well as sonic disasters.

Thanks for the information and heads up Charles. I also like the JJs in my system.

I have been comparing the old JJ KT88s and JJ E88cc input tube, and then flip two switches (in power supply) and then using Winged C KT88s and Bugleboy input tube. Did not know if the new JJs might mess up my adjustments.

I have it where I don't know if I can tell the difference, except maybe in width of sound stage, and crispness. Got to use more selections just to make sure.

Cheers
