As this next selection starts, this should be one of the finest sounding recordings of a clarinet,
next to live. Martha Argerich playing piano. And this is on YouTube. The sound is so open with
wonderful decays etc.

Your welcome Nick.

I just found a recording that will test the dynamics of one's system. I found it on Deezer,
but also YouTube but of lesser quality. Be careful of the volume as it could easily clip one's system.
The transparency and naturalness are very natural.

Thanks. Found it on Roon 👍

Glad you found it Nick.

Interestingly, high DA (electrolytic capacitors) means electrons stick to the insulation and
slowly release. One of the degrading effects is loss of dynamics. With low DA polypropylene
(capacitors), the dynamics are increased.

The first time I heard that selection at normal volume, when the dynamics suddenly hit, I
thought the cones were going to separate from the speaker basket. Quite startling.

Here is a recording of Horowitz. Although not as natural recording, the dynamics are pretty amazing.
The power in those fingers is amazing to me.

I don't know how to explain this selection. It just seems so good, acoustics I have been in before,
and I love the song since a kid. Music starts at ~1:10.

Steve,

I love this song as well. A beautiful melody and lyrics as well. Roon has a nice history on the song and I’ve enjoyed many of co-composer Franck Pourcell’s compositions over the years. There are many “jazzed up” versions of this song and they annoy me quite a bit. They basically…imho….ruin a beautiful song. But I suspect the “jazzed up” version is because the song was used in the movie Sister Act. Just speculation and I’m not going to check into it further. I was able to find a few good versions on Roon and really enjoy those. Thanks for posting.
