It's AudioNervosa's 1 year anniversary on January 18th. So, I thought it'd be a good idea to raffle off a new Slim Devices Duet as seen here: http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_duet.html This will be a production unit once it is released (which is soon).
It's $20 to join, please indicate your AudioNervosa screen name with your entry. If you're not yet an AudioNervosa member, register here (http://www.audionervosa.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=87a63c12922d1c448b7a3bbf68b3d6d9&action=register).
Send your entry to donations@audionervosa.com.
Checks must be in my hand by the time of drawing. Email me for the address and such.
All entries must be submitted by February 29, 2008. (extended to coincide with product release)
Be sure to send an email to 'donations@audionervosa.com' so your name gets in the hat.
Drawing will be held in February at the next local hifi gathering. I want witnesses! I will put everyone's name on a piece of paper, put them into a hat, stir and have my wife (or someone uninterested) draw the name. I will attempt to video the event and post the winning moment. (BTW, to keep it clean, I will not be in the drawing)
Who knows, maybe you could walk away with a new Duet for only $20.... Someone will.

Not to put a damper on your fun but are you sure this is legal? Some states and communities consider raffles a form of gambling. Best to check up on this before you get too involved. The only reason I'm mentioning it is that seemingly innocent internet raffles have been quashed before and in some cases, the refund process has gotten a bit sticky. If it works out - I'll certainly throw in my $20!

I'd be surprised if the legal system has nothing better to do than come down on this minor community-awareness booster but I'll deal with it if it happens. I'm just hoping I get enough people to cover the cost of the unit at this point.... since I'm buying it myself. If you're at all concerned, please don't enter...

I'm blaming it all on Carl, never took a sip until this years RMAF. As it turns out, I like the taste :drool:
Won the money to afford the scotch in a 17 week football pool that I took 1st place in :) and then to top it off the Chicago Bears scored 33 points the last game of the season so cashed in on a 2 week rollover in a 33 point pool for $160. :D Trust me its not from sales on audio components. :( Thought I would treat myself to a luxury I normally can't afford.
Prefer the word inexpensive as to cheap :lol:

I put my name on the Logitech notification email list, so I'm sure that means I will be the last to know when it starts shipping, but hopefully it will be soon!
Thinking about the Duet remote's imminent arrival, I suddenly am finding it even more annoying to aim the remote around my foot and over the preamp to reach the SB. Wifi will be COOL! And I can take my glasses of and leave them off when I listen. I hope they have it pretty well debugged for prime time. Beta testing was a good idea.
I'm also looking forward to building a new upgrade PS for it too. I think I will put the SB3 up in my BR with an old receiver and some Infinity Entra One speakers for some mood music.

Here's hoping my luck picks up... came home on Friday after a frantic call from next door neighbor to a waterfall in my front foyer... nothing like ~$80K+ worth of water damage and at least a month away from your house to make your week... could have been worse, though... I wasn't planning to be home this weekend... would have been very ugly without the Fedex guy hearing it and alerting the neighbors to call me.... I have a feeling everyone is safe from my entry ;)

OK, we're getting close to the drawing! :o
I've been informed the Duet isn't launching until the first week of March... So, I'm going to extend this donation drive/raffle until the end of February. It's a leap year so, you get 1 extra day. ;)
Bpape will be supplying the Duet and shipping it directly to the winner as soon as he gets it. Keep in mind, this is a new product release and that date could be pushed back again... but I will close the raffle on 2/29 regardless.
So, get in now while there's only a week left!

Mr. Galusha referred me to the site, awesome! Outside of being a raffle-whore, ok, not really but who doesn't like to win a game of chance? I have the unit on order. I've not received anything from my distributor telling me that it's on the way. My understanding was that the last time they pushed it back, they were supposed to ship the first week of March from Logitech to the distributors.
For any of you who are interested in this piece and aren't lucky enough to win this one, I'd be happy to get a group by together.

Great idea on the GB, Bryan!
I'm printing and folding names onto equally sized papers to draw from the hat. I will then have my lovely wife draw the name... BUT I need to have at least 1 other couple around to make it a little more 'dramatic'... and of course for a witness. ;)

I have a few on order and the Canadian distributor is claiming that my order will ship this coming week but I'm not holding my breath as this has been pushed back a few times already due to "issues". Logitech's word, not mine. As some may recall I was actually going to drop Slim (and probably still will) but the Duet got me curious enough to hang on for a bit longer.
I have also picked up the Sonos line as I'm getting way more people asking for it now than the Slim stuff.

John, I still get direct marketing ads from Sonos salesperson. But they still cost $200 more than the Duet, so I will give Duet a try first. Maybe their price will drop when Duet starts making traction, but that will take a year before general public comes as aware of Duet as they are of Sonos. I really just need an interactive handheld menu and digital output for the DAC. It's nice that there is finally some competition in that niche. I hope they both continue to sell strong so a $49 version will be available from Sharp/Target in a couple years. haha

Thank you ! When the time comes, PM me for any shipping info you might need. I eagerly await taking the Duet components for a test drive. I have been starting to set up one of my older computers as a music server, but its location in the basement is not optimal. Now the problem seems to be solved by the magic of SB wireless.
Rich, I very much look forward to your comments, especially regarding setup and sound. I have a few alternate amps and speakers, and I will be able to easily test it with all, given the small size. I look forward to reporting my impressions.
This is such a cool new technology. It has the potential to change the way one can be surrounded by music, and makes listening location much more flexible.

My distributor is supposed to get his allocation on Thursday of this week.
As for the group buy, I haven't gotten an answer yet as to the qty required to get any better price than my standard dealer cost.

Will the Duet remote work with SB3s? (it's really talking to the server, not the receiver, right?). I've got two SB3s but would love to get one of the new remotes. Unless the new Duet receiver sounds noticibly better, I'll probably pass on that.

According to Logitech, yes it will. You can run the new piece and SB's with it. The separate pieces will be a little later releasing. Not sure if this is the issue with the late release or not so hard to say at this point.

Yes it definitely works on all SB's. I use it to control all of the SB's in my house currently. You take control individually then you can do everything you normally could...
With the Duet receiver, you have to have a remote since there's no display. BTW, I don't think it will sound better than the SB3 out of the box, stock vs. stock.

He says he's been getting 3-4 firmware updates DAILY for the 1 pre-release piece he has on his desk. Will let you know more when I know more.
Obviously, that puts delivery of the raffle winner's piece out a bit and also puts out any group buy.

They can't change hardware, so they will have to fix the software. With so many updates coming out now, I think they are working hard on it, with Logitech cracking the whip on the release date!! When it is working it is awesome.

Perhaps it's a question of the appropriateness of a business model that: sets a release date, continues to blow by it, and thinks that consumers should feel 100% comfortable with that business model / the product when it finally does release. The implied manufacturer's care and thoughtfulness in its product, or lack thereof, may be reflected in the above model.
Or perhaps an analogy might work: the Space Shuttle reportedly had all the bugs worked out of it until it first blew up, and then melted a different time. I know, the Duet's not space travel, nor has the Duet landed.

I suspect if it was still just Slim and not Logitech owning Slim, it wouldn't have things in the field quite yet. This is purely speculation on my part.

When it comes to getting a build of software out, the powers that be will always say ship it, even though the developers know there are problems and beg for more time. It doesn't matter if it's super mega giant MS or a small shop with 15 employees. For the executives it's all about the perception of being first to market and or meeting the promise they made a customer. I've worked in both large and small software shops and it's the same regardless. I'm pretty sure any developer or development manager will say the same.

I agree Mike, Logitech didn't buy slim because they think SB is cool. They said "Make a Sonos killer at priceX ready to ship in one year." Sean said "okiedokie where's my money?" so now that year has come and gone, and they have shipped (something) on time, and it is great (in concept.) But it is totally reliant on software and bugs are to be expected in such a big step forward. Compared to beta versions only 2 months ago it has come a LONG long way already. It will be a busy buggy springtime, but then a very busy sales year.
