Weird "chill-out" music
Bob in St. Louis:
ok, I like the "normal" music everybody else does. I like ZZ Top, and Zeppelin, and Diana Krall, AC/DC, Bach, etc..etc..etc..
But sometimes I get tired of hearing a song I've been hearing on a regular basis for the past few decades. Sometimes I get tired of hearing lyrics and what they're trying to preach to me.
Sometimes I want to "zone out", and have some good tunes in the background. Something with a nice beat. Something with a nice flow. Something with no lyrics to distract me. I like this music when I'm driving. When I'm in the workshop building things.
---- Instructions:
- Don't watch the videos. They can be a distraction from the music.
- Be doing something else while listening. 'Background' music is the key, but don't be shy with the volume knob. Turn it up.
Whatch'all think about these. The genre is far and wide, spanning MANY sub-genres. It's impossible to give a taste with just a couple videos, but here's the best sample I can give without making some huge epic post:
Alex Cortiz - "Afterworld"

The Shanghai Restoration Project - "Jessfield Park"
Idenline - "At Sunset"

Prefuse 73 - "Storm Returns"

Mr FijiWiji - "The Mentalist"

So..."thoughts" on this?
What "weird" music do you listen to that's generally considered out of the ordinary, even by the standards of the average audiophile?

Yea.....That's what I figured.
180 views and one week later, not a single comment, much less somebody else that likes it.
You know it some SERIOUSLY weird music when not even the audiophiles like it.
I still love you guys though.
Bob ;)

Sorry I haven't checked any of the links but when I hear about chill out music I think of the web site Ektoplazm.com.
Hundreds of albums of techno/trance/electronica.
You can sort by style - I like the downtemo stuff much more than the "boots-n-pants-n-boots-n-pants..." stuff.
It has a built-in player so you can play right from the site, or you can download full cd quality (pretty sure) flac or wav files.
Check it out - a great site w/ free tunes to chill to.

Cool Mike, I'll check it out. It doesn't like something with my Adobe or Flash, because I can't preview anything, although it looks like I can d/l everything.
Thank you!

I gave a listen to 2-3 links, but I couldn't get all the way through the song before I got bored and clicked on the next one. I didn't find it boring but I also didn't find it compelling or interesting enough to stick with. Maybe as background music while working?
