Tube rolling in SN DAC's
« on: June 25, 2007, 05:48:51 PM »
OK, so I've been playing with tubes in my Scott Nixon DAC... The stock one sounded a bit 'dull' and I noticed made some noise... I think it was going bad... Towards the end it started picking up radio stations (or RFI)... So, in went some Yugoslavian 6DJ8 and I figured I'd throw a few more at it later.  I had some other tubes around and found 1 pair of 6922's.. Sovtek's.  I had them cryo'd and the pins treated by John at Black Sand... I'm not nuts about using 1 of a pair but wow, the sound has really gotten nice...

I went from a sort of hollow midrange to full-bodied and balanced.. the bass tightened up, the highs became more extended.... Just a relief... Everything has a nice, smooth sound now...

Anyone else been rolling tubes in one of these or any other DAC's?  What works best in your opinion?

I've been promised a new DAC next week by Scott... I hope to compare the USB to the spdif connection and see what's happening there... Should be fun.

Thanks,
Carl
I really enjoy listening to music.
