I went down to Washington DC this weekend to visit with Meredith's daughter. The girls went out weeding dress shopping and so I took the opportunity to check out one of the area record stores. Not a great place, but I was able to pick up a bunch of clearance bin stuff  at 50% off. Nothing great, but stuff that was worth taking a shot at given the price,

LPs

Illinois Jacquet: Genius at Work - Black Lion LP

Robert Greenidge and Michael Utley: Mad Music - MCA Masters LP (Pressed on MoFi Vinyl)

Arlo Guthrie: One Night - Warner Bros LP (Promo Copy)

Bobby Sherman: Here Comes Bobby - Metromedia LP

(I bought this one for Meredith . This album was one of her Favs when she was 9 years old. I found a copy with the full foldout poster and the original stickers for only $2)

CDs

Dexter Gordon: Take the A Train - Black Lion CD

Paco de Lucia: Cositas Buenas - Blue Thumb CD (Promo Copy)

Robert Cray: Take Your Shoes Off - Rykodisc CD

Christopher Hollyday: Telepathy - Jazzbeat CD

Clifford Laml - Blues & Hues - Weberworks CD

I guess I’m at the exact age for the Bobby Sherman thing. One older and one younger sister loved him at the time. I had to watch ‘Here Come The Brides’ every week. I would bet Meredith remembers the show. My younger sister invited Bobby to her 8th birthday party, but he didn’t show…

So I went over to the library this afternoon to return a few things and they had a bunch of CDs on the discard shelf. Usually these CDs are ones that have not seen much use and are being withdrawn from circulation and acre offered for sale at $1 each. But today there were quite a few discs that were obviously not retired Library discs, many of them still sealed. Was also a new sign saying that the CDs were now $1 each or 6 for $5.

I ended up finding 5 SACDs, 6 CDs and one  2 CD set. I told the woman I had an even dozen and handed her a $20 bill, expecting a 10 back in change. She returned and handed me $18 change saying that they were trying to move things out so they were having a one day 6 for a dollar sale!

Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time.  :2thumb

Today's haul:

Rachmaninoff: Symphony No, 3 - Gergiev/London Symphony Orchestra - LSO Live SACD

Dvorák & Lalo Cello Concertos - Johannes Moser, Cello - Pentatone SACD

Haydn: Symphonies 31, 70 & 101 - Ticciati/Scottish Chamber Orchestra - Linn SACD

Gloriae Dei Cantores - Unto Ages of Ages - Gloriae Dei Artes Foundation SACD

Mahler: Symphony No. 1 "Titan" - Fischer/Utah Symphony - Reference Recordings SACD

True Concord Voices & Orchestra: Far in the Heavens, Choral Muisc of Stephan Pualus - Reference Recordings Fresh! CD

Berlioz: Symphony Fantastique - Muti/Chicago Symphony Orchestra - CSO Resound 2 CD Set

John Morris/Cincinnati Pops Orchestra:  American Originals  - Telrac CD

Steve Reid's Bamboo Forest: Mysteries - Telarc Jazz Zone CD

Lionel Hampton: Ring dem Vibes - Verve CD

Barbara Streisand: Love is the Answer - Columbia CD

Robert Plant/Allison Krauss: Raising Sand - Rounder CD

Sad to hear another record store biting the dust.

As for myself, I've completely stopped buying any used CDs at thrift shops and the local libraries. I haven't even listened to the ones I picked up more than 5 years ago!

Very sad… When I decided to sell my turntable, arm etc, I was able to sell some albums, donate some others, but most I had to toss due to lack of interest from individual buyers and record shops 😢
