General DIY / Re: Add spikes to your Pangea Vulcan rack shelves

It looks like there is a new kid on the block.

https://stackaudio.co.uk/auvaeq/

All the reviewers I've read/watched says this betters the IsoAcoustics.  Can't be sure without trying them, but I am sure this will sound better than the spikes I am playing around with, which is essentially technology from the 90s (or 80s), right?

Two reviewers are saying the Stack Audio speaker footers bested even the Townshends.

I think the prices are comparable or just a bit higher compared to the equivalent IsoAcoustics products when you factor in shipping or VAT.

$204 for 4 or around $158 for 3 versus around $180 for three IsoAcoustics Indigos.

Thanks, Jim, for posting the link on the sale. Too much going on and financial expenditures coming up during the holidays.

Paul, you’re always coming up with new stuff! Very interesting reading and that metal to metal contact of the equipment chassis and the top of the puck. I may try them out at some point. I am listening to music right now, but will definitely look at Hans Beekhuyzen’s utube video. He’s very thorough and I respect his opinions. I will be reading the High Fidelity Magazine review when I post this.

Nick,
The LT3.2 was developed to be used with either a monopole or dipole radiation pattern.  The standard setup is either with or without the waveguide.  This would be for a sealed cabinet speaker as the rear wave from the tweeter is absorbed by material in the rear cup.

Dipole for open baffle operation gives a more spacious sound with a figure of 8 radiation pattern that I think works well in a room, but easier to keep side wall reflections down.  Having diffusion behind the open baffle drivers adds to the ambience and gets rid of direct rear reflections that can interfere with imaging.

Fun stuff!

Hi Rich,

Fun stuff, indeed and thanks much for the explanation! I’ve  not had any experience with OB, dipole, etc. Sure have led a sheltered (audio) life in some respects 🤷 Oh well…

I was fortunate to have the omni directional Shahinian Diapasons about 25 years ago. Would love to have them now just to compare with the quality equipment I have now. But those tweeters couldn’t compare to the wonderful AMT that I have now.

How does this tweeter rate as to some of your all time favorites?

Thanks for the heads up! But it seems I shall miss it. I'll check back next year.

The best reflected (rear) wave diffusion is achieved with hemispherical diffusers.  2D diffusers Rob the soundstage of height.

-----------------------------------------------
Hoserama Show Notes:
--Not my usual cup of tea, but JL made a good effort to talk me into to coming out for this one. Sounded like a pretty standard representation of a Morrissey show without any tantrums or messes (unlike Hollywood the week prior). Sounded good vocally, kept to the music with very little talking to the crowd.
--Funny thing at soundcheck. Big tour bus pulls in about 4:20pm, and the band starts soundchecking shortly afterwards. Then another bus pulls in about 5:30pm, and Morrissey sings about 2 songs with the band then splits. Band continues until almost 6:30pm. I wonder how much interaction Morrissey has with the band outside of being onstage.

Hoserama Recording Notes:
--Interesting assortment of IEM feeds. It appears one of the guitarist isn't on ears, and of course Morrissey isn't either. I was able to do some spatial extractions and isolated the missing guitarist pretty nicely. Then the vocals are pulled from multiple feeds using the new spiffy AI-stem extractors. Sometimes there will be some artifacts, and just won't be as clean as a upfront vocals feed. But overall, came together pretty well. JL's schoeps source filled out the mix nicely since the IEM feeds have little-no audience noise.

Hoserama General Notes:
--As always, encouraging people to get into taping and mixing. Just take the craft seriously and it will reward you many times over. There's no point in complaining about missing recordings or subpar quality if you're not contributing--pushing 1's and 0's around on the internet is no comparison for taping.
--IEM recordings are not for everyone. If not they're not your thing, either sonically or ethically, well at least you didn't spend any money on this.
--Similarly, I'm mixing primarily for my ears. This is what sounds best to me. This may not sound best to you. That's a fair statement. I'm open to honest criticism (although you should have caught me when I was working on the mix!), but pointless complaining is unappreciated (naturally). Let's play nice.
--Please don't sell this recording in any way - no cash for blanks, 2:1s, or any other form of "getting paid for your time". Just share it freely.
--Please don't convert to mp3, then back to wave, and then trade it around. This stuff is too easy to find on torrents now.
--Feel free to remaster/remix this recording. Just keep it to your own computer and iPod.
--Also, please don't torrent or share on other sites without at least dropping me a line and asking. I may want to just torrent/share it there myself. This means you, guitar101!
--Please ask (and wait for permission!) before putting it into any matrix + video production. If you ask nicely for a quality high-res video project, I will likely say “yes”. If you put it on YouTube or cell phone video production without asking, I will send my cats from hell to chew your computer cables.
--Enjoy y'all!

the previously seeded LL49. A definite upgrade.

- "Davis's first live date as a leader since the October Birdland broadcast.
His All-Star group was booked at Birdland for one week, May 1-7. Two nights were
broadcast on WJZ. Aside from the between-tune announcements, this is probably the
entire set performed on this night. After the Birdland engagement, Davis took a
group into Blue Note studios for the first of three studio dates." -Credit to Peter
