Guess no SET owners expect me and Pete G. Well anyway ordered a pair of WE 242D replicas from Pavane. Hoping to arrive late Friday. Using GE211 now. Would love RCA or United but NOS are $3000 a pair if you can even find them.
BTW dealing with Rachel is pure pleasure.

Nope. None of my buddies have SETs and I’ve only heard them at shows. $3,000 a pair...wow. Let us know what you think of the 242Ds

2A3 is my favorite... just wish it had more than 3.5 watts of power... the 50 is up next, but only 5 watts... the 45 is not my cup of tea... blah!

The 300B (Western Electric, Living Voice, Takatsuki) is a great tube, with a beautiful tonal balance... A lot of the Chinese & Russian junk can give the 300B a bad rap... they really aren't 300B's and don't meet the original Western Electric spec's... just sayin...

My $0.02,
Pete

I loved my Svetlana 572 tubes... IF one can find a pair that will live.  My Cary's were running them too close to maximum limits and there was a couple of internal fireworks shows that were spectacular.  They were musical yet muscular.

My dream is to build a KT150 SE amp.  I've heard them in P-P amps and they sound very good.

I don't have a favorite SET tube because I have never owned a pair of speakers efficient enough to drive with a commercially available SET amp.

the speakers you own now would be easily driven by my audio mirror amps.  unless, 5wpc more than your present amps isn't enough.  ;)

Your right, that would do the job. In my mind I was equating SET with single power tube, flea watt amps.

Never gave a thought to parallel SET technology in relation to the question in  this thread.

My bad.

Doug that Audio Mirror looks quite impressive. The Almarro 318 as well. Thinking about buying a used one to try with Rethms.

Contacted Vlad no response yet. The used Almarro is $1300 and local. Decisions, decisions. The line I sell Audio Hungary has a 6C33C mono block offering which I can get for the same price of the Audio Mirror.
I think any of them would be just fine. Just need to hear all first, no assumptions.
