Title: Recommendations for an OTA HD tuner?
Post by: djdube525 on September 22, 2011, 06:54:00 AM
I have cut the cable cord, and primarily watch content via Hulu Plus (dropped Netflix after they changed their plans). For most of the year, I'm fine with the decision. However, during the fall months, I yearn for football.

So my question... I've found an antenna I like, but I'm looking for recommendations for an HD OTA tuner. Note: I don't have a TV, and my current receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs (video goes to the projector, audio to the receiver).

Any thoughts? I don't want to spend a fortune, and I don't need any recording capabilities. Suggestions?

Thanks!

Hmmm... not much action here... I'm in a similar situation, but I do have cable, just no boxes, and I'd like to add a tuner to my theater system which is now only viable with silver discs ;)

I think Shane still has the tuner he offered to me. My wife decided to stay on DirecTV.

Here's (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-SIR-T351-Receiver-free-HDTV-over-air-/300653288171?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4600551aeb) a Samsung SIR-T351 Receiver over the air free HDTV on EBAY. Current bid is $10, ends 1/26.  :thumb:

dj - (Great dog BTW!!)

Can you make use of a Zenith HD-SAT520 "DirecTV High-Definition Receiver / Advanced HDTV Tuner" ?

It has DVI/HDTV out, and Component out, each labelled with "1080i / 720p / 480p"

I don't know if you can just hook this up or not or if you need to have DirecTV involved? - there is an access card in it, but will it work, IDK (does the OTA part work independant of DirecTV?). Hasn't been used in a few years. Sorry I don't have an antennae installed anymore to test it.

Anyway, it's yours for free if you want it, lemme know.

Mike, if DJ doesn't bite I'd like to give it a shot.

Thanks, Barry

Actually, I bought another one of Shane's a while back. There's also a good HDTV antenna I picked up from a local outfit...

Here it is... Leaf Antenna by Mohu (http://www.amazon.com/Paper-Thin-Leaf-Indoor-Antenna/dp/B004QK7HI8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1328063144&sr=8-3) in Raleigh, NC.
