Tchaikovsky - Philadelphia Orchestra, The, Riccardo Muti ‎– Suites From The Ballets: Swan Lake / Sleeping Beauty

One of the 1000 or so classical albums I pulled out of Bill's  crackhouse in Allentown.

Untouched vinyl from the look of it.

One down 999 to go?

I'd say I've listened to about 5% of it since 2010.

I'm a BIG fan!

Holst / Sir Adrian Boult, New Philharmonia Orchestra, With Chorus ‎– The Planets

Put this on to see how the amp would handle Mars, it did fine.

But Venus showed me that the new tweeter not as 'expressive' as the original in other box.

How much break-in time do tweets need?

100 hours should get most of it. If still not right, the replacement tweeter has too different parameters from the original.

"The Planets" is so much fun, and so many great versions recorded. If you like Holst, check out his First and Second Suites for Military Band. That was a game changer for concert band music, like Bird was to swing.

Hank Mobley: Workout

  Blue Note 180g LP

I heard about the Acoustic Sounds sale on 45RPM Blue Note albums and figured it was time to revisit some of my Blue Note collection. I have a number of them on heavy (180g?) vinyl with note readily visible makings as to who exactly did the repressings (not that they really matters from a listening perspective)

Hank Mobley: Peckin' Time

 Blue Note CD

So after listening to abunch of my blue note stuff I decided that there was nothing in Chad's sale inventory that was really worth buying at this time. Not that he didn' have a lot of great music to choose from, but I listened to several things he had on sale that I had either audiophile 33 RPM repressings or CD copies of and in each case I decided it was not worth the money to upgrade because I decided that it just wasn't worth the money or the shelf space to get a second, third or fourth copy of something. In other words, the version that I had sounded pretty darn good, so I was not coplelled to upgrade. Had I not had a good sounding version of some of these albums I would have grabbed then in a heartbeart As $30 for a 2 disc 45 RPM pressing is a great price, for something that I did not have. I just didn't feel compelled to spend it for an additional version.

Grab your sweaters boys. The Vampire walked away from a record sale!!!  It's going to be a cold day in hell.
