Actually, my copy is from the Angel Sonic Series 45 rpm.  I've loved this LP from first time I heard it in the 80's.  One of the high end shops in Dallas used to sell it, along with Sheffield Lab LP's.

No planting on Long Island yet. We woke up to 21 degree temps this morning and will be close to that again tonight. I can kiss goodbye all of the daffodils that sprouted up last week.

Love those varietals and Rhones in general. Hope they complement the tunes.

I was in the mood for something solid, well known, something I knew every note so I wouldn't have to really pay attention. 
Scheherazade by Rimsky Korsakov.  The first copy I find is Haitink on Phillips.  I swear, only Haitink could emasculate such a swaggering piece.  After the first side played, I put it up and pulled out a Stowkowski on London Phase 4 pressings.  These are thick, overblown versions... exactly what I was in the mood for.

My favorite reading of Scheherazade id the 1960 Decca recording of Ansermet and the Suisse Romande. Over the years I have collected quite a few pressings of it, an original London Blu Back LP, the King Records Super analogue LP, several domestic and import CDs and the HDTT DSD 256 file version. While I think that , at least on my system, the Super Analogue LP is the best sounding, the HDTT DSD is close to it and since I was working on my taxes yesterday, the convenience of file, based music won out.
