Paul Simon: Graceland - The Remixes

Tidal Streaming

Well, what a disappointment this was. When I saw Remixes in the title I was thinking along the lines of the Steven Wilson Remixes. But what this actually turned out to be was a bunch of techno dance remixes of song from the Graceland album. YUCK!!!

Ginger Baker: Why?

Montema CD

That is one scary looking cover.

Acoustic jazz quartet led by the former Cream Drummer.

Not bad musically, but the mix is rather odd in that the  drums are always the center of attention even to the point of being louder in the mix that the sax is during a sax solo.  But I guess this should not be that big of a surprise considering hat Baker is also the producer of the album.

It was worth a listen, but I'm glad that I borrowed it from the library as one spin was good enough.

Rossini: La Boutique Fantasque - Solti/Israel Philharmonic Orchestra

London "Blue Back" LP (English Pressing)

There is something just very "right" about the sound of this album. It also contains The Socerer's Apprentice, which when compared to the Reference Recording version found on Mephisto & Friends is much less dynamic and spectacular sounding. But while it is not as impressive sounding as the RR it is at the same time more natural and true to what I would expect to hear in a good concert hall.

Which once again brings us back to the same question of whether an album should try to give us the best sound they can record or the closest reproduction of an actual concert experience?

Apple 2 CD Set

This week marks the 50th Anniversary of the release of Hey Jude so I thought it would be an appropriate time to give this one a spin.  8)
