Two great new LP purchases

(1/1)

biglou:
1. Skip James: Today - very well recorded and remastered. out on 4 Men with Beards. solo blues guitar and vocals, mellow, and smooth. A+

2. Steely Dan Aja Cisco Anniv. reissue - definitely hearing music i hadn't previosly heard, especially light percussion. at times i think the drums sound a bit off, but at others i just grin. B+

overall, i'd say both are must haves. any other thoughts on these LPs?

Thanks for the tip(s) :)

Tyler,

Nice choices.  I recently got the Aja re-release and am looking forward to giving it a listen when the new table comes.  I latched on to that one when it came out my freshman year in college, and it quickly became one of my "desert island disks".  Can't wait to hear it the way the musicians intended it to sound.

Other recent scores for me:

Richard Thompson - Front Porch Ballads on 180 g, 45 rpm, 2 disk set.

3 of the limited edition 200g Japanese re-releases:

The police, Regatta de Blanc, Marvin Gaye, What's Going On, and Stevei Wonder.

And another 200 gram one from Classic -- Jethro Tull, Aqualung.

And finally, Ray Charles and Count Basie -- Ray Sings, Basie Swings.

The bummer is that my new table from Audio Note will take about 8 weeks to be made -- once I place the order, which I will do right after RMAF.
