I saw Edgar Meyer featured with NC Symphony 2 years ago. They played his concerto for bass, then he came out for encore, one of the very few I have seen in my 5 years' attendance. He played a jazzy, bluegrass solo which filled the huge hall and was a very welcome blast of sunshine into an otherwise stuffy classical concert hall. I saw our area's best jazz bassist there to see Meyer perform. He is really something.
