Tidal black hole
« on: June 06, 2018, 04:53:42 PM »
All of the Earth Wind & Fire albums are gone.

I listened to 2 of them a few weeks ago.

Do you notice any other records missing from Tidal?

I had signed up to Tidal with one of the Groupon free trial but decided to dump them today for the same reason.  One of my favorite album was Macy Gray's Stripped which had disappeared.  I am going to try Deezer next by paying for a year up front @ 10 bucks a month and leverage Logitech Media Server to stream to HQPlayer embedded.

Rich I started to notice this trend a few months ago. I am not sure if record labels are starting to pull their albums of the alleged royal non-payments we have been reading about lately or if this is just a result of Tidal :thinning the herd" and getting rid of titles that are not enumerating sufficient traffic. But it is very annoying because when the delete a title the deletion does not flow through to your favorites list. The links to the deleted albums just sit there and the only way you know it is gone is when you try to play it you get a selection no longer available message

I'll check out Deezer, thanks D.

Could be royalties, but the entire Sony catalog is not removed. MJ Thriller is still visible.

Could be thinning the herd, but 1920s artists Bix Beiderbecke and Artur Schnabel are still on Tidal. Who listens to them?

Surely EWF's #1 records that were danced to by the current 55yo very spendy demographic still has commercial value. Something else is going on that we don't know.

It could be that Sony is shooting bullets across Tidal's bow by selectively banning the streaming of some titles to show Tidal what they could do if payments don't improve. Just doesn't make sense. A lawsuit would be more convincing and would not harm fans by shutting off their music.

Rich, I believe you are using Roon so you will have to look for alternate solution to manage, like Sonos (which I believe you have).  Bluesound Node can do Deezer.  Even though Logitech Media Server is not listed on the devices listt, there have been reports on CA that folks are using it.  I am hoping BubbleUPnP will add support or I will have to purchase mConnect App license to stream to UPnP device.

http://www.deezer.com/us/devices

Even though Bluesound is not listed as supporting HiFi - thread on Deezer Support site seems to confirm that it does support HiFi.

https://www.deezer.com/en/offers/?referer=sonos - Gives you the option of signing up at 14.99 and I think if you decide to pay a year in advance it is 9.99.  I will find out for sure tonight when I go through the singup process.

Information on mConnect App

Could it be that certain albums were only licensed to Tidal for a fix period of time that has now expired?

Just a thought.

Signup to Deezer was easy and paying for a year in advance the cost was ~120.  It also said that I the next payment was due on 08/07/18.  If my math is correct by paying for whole year in advance I got total of 14 months.  Not bad, the only down side is paying for it a year in advance.  I had a free account before so to sign up with the special pricing I had to use another account.  If folks want to try it for free use the trial and if it does not allow you to sign up for the low price you will have to use a new account.
